I can well believe that bulldozer chips start shipping this week, the question is, from where and in what form? As raw wafers from Dresden needing to be packaged? As packaged chips in Malaysia headed for AMD warehouses? Or final retail product headed from AMD warehouses to retail/etail outlets?

i am going to guess 2 out of 3 of your scenarios are right

Yours is a well balanced system for 1080. Performance basically equal to AMD's top quad with a near-GTX 580.
- it's close to what i would pick if i was buying my own HW
:good:

Yeah it's nice. I'm really enjoying it. I appreciate your advice in terms of the components I chose.

So long as I leave the AA at 2X or below, I can run pretty much any game maxed out. Sometimes turning down the textures by one notch helps as well.

I've settled on an overclock of 850mhz on the cores of my GTX 460s. The memory runs at 2100mhz. They're at 1.087v. It's too bad that I lost 100mhz on the core speed by going with SLI. I might be able to hit 900mhz on them, but it would need too much voltage and would generate too much heat.

It's a shame that it has taken AMD this long to release Bulldozer.

The thing is though, IMO there's not much point in having something faster than a decent quad core.

I know I won't be upgrading until I'm CPU limited in games, which will probably be a while.

A yr ago i got blasted for spreading the news that BD wasnt gonna be out till Q4 2012. I was only spreading some of what i heard, you know, but some die hard AMD nuts got their panties in flames. They accused me of all kindsa stuff. JFamd even came here to put me in my place, lol! He was personally invited by a member that was rumored of being charlie D. We see that maybe i wasnt just someone who lacked faith in AMD. Its jello pudding time!!!!

Anyway as far as BD, its a great direction for AMD. But its not gonna be able to do much against intel. AMD has tons to sort out with the new design. They should be finally getting the process to par but there is tons of work that could be done...... Its gonna take a generation or so before BD shines like it should.

What i find interesting is intel. It would appear that intel is actually concerned with the BD. It really seems like they want to rain on AMDs parade. Intel may just drop their prized CPU on BD like a house on a witch!!! I think it would be a real shame if intel drops the bomb immediately after AMD. I hope BD gets to have a great launch. But.......

Within the next week or so AMD should begin shipping its FX Series processors

Nothing really new. :P

i am looking forward to getting my hands on one. But then AMD Graphics is ignoring my repeated requests to replace or fix my HD 6990
:(

I thought it started working when you switched motherboards with it?????? (ROFLMAO) I knew that sounded a little bit funny!!!!!

(hh) shouldve known (hh)

It would be absolutely stupid for AMD to stick you with this 6990. They need to at least appear respectful, dont you think.

geez!!!! remember, just a little while ago, the dilemma on whether to use the 6990 overclocked results once you got wind they wouldn't honor the warranty it their factory switch was turned on? This is just soooooo.......ironic???

It still works in the Phenom II MB - for now. But it is a $750 doorstop and i seriously doubt it will keep running. i don't think AMD has made very many of them and perhaps they are all inherently defective; they may not have a replacement or not wish to fix it.

And they keep on ignoring me and my requests without even the courtesy to respond.

If AMD doesn't replace it, we could have a contest to give it a proper send-off
-Maybe a YouTube video destroying it creatively and then giving it a proper burial - what do you think - a DeuSex parody with a shotgun blast to the guts of the HD 6990 - maybe a ninja GTX 590 can execute it?

ha ha. Honestly its a shame, all joking aside. Dont think i would bring the 590 into the video though. That would really take away from point. I dont see a need to promote Nvidia. A video of its destruction would be neat by itself. Maybe that would catch AMD's attention. Its a shame. But honestly they may not even care. They seem more and more..........well, they havent been the company some ppl think they are to say the least.

If Bulldozer can drop into my AM3 motherboard and work, I will buy one relatively soon. If I need to upgrade my entire platform, though, I will be stuck waiting for at least another year.

BUT-
AMD would rather you buy an am3+ as they get more $$$ selling you chipset as well as a cpu. Really i think intel is gonna have the next must have cpu out there. The eight core bulldozer might be an upgrade for your quad (justifiable????) , seriously though i think all the six core users wont have any reason to upgrade at all. BD will cause these CPUs to drop in price. So if your am3 board wont support BD, you surely will be seeing some cheap 6core ph2s.

I do think most everyday ppl will be fooled into think BD 8 cores is much much better than the older six core AM3 chips. While i do see the 8cores excelling in perfect scenarios such as 3dmark and cenibench i would bet money that this isnt true across the board. In actual performance for the normal usages, BDs 8 cores isnt gonna be much better than the 6cores they have today. The beautiful part is those older AM3 cpus are gonna be dirt cheap!!!!

Well, i was thinking of a war game; something like Civ 5 with the Red and Green armies lined up. Maybe General HD 6990 drinks some espresso and has a heart attack before he is shot.
:hello:

Yes it is a real shame. The whole launch of the HD 6990 was ridiculous the way they rushed the tech sites; nor were they honest with us in their desperation to have the "fastest". On top of that you get an overcharged and noisy-as-hell card that they won't even warranty. Then we get the ridiculous rumors that the GTX 590s are defective and perhaps some staged destruction of them to get the fanboys riled up.

Finally AMD tells me that my situation of the HD 6990 not working in one MB but functional in another is not unusual.

Advanced Micro Devices has once again redesigned the launch family of its FX-series microprocessors code-named Zambezi so that to make it broader and more competitive, a source with knowledge of the company's plans revealed. However, the company, as reported last week, delayed the launch of the new chips, which are based on highly-anticipated Bulldozer micro-architecture, to October, 2011.

In a bid to improve competitive positions of its FX-series "Zambezi" lineup due to become available in the fourth quarter of this year, AMD decided to broaden it to seven models: four eight-core FX-8100 versions, one FX-6100 flavour and two FX-4100 central processing units, according to a source close to the company, which asked to remain anonymous. The increased amount of SKUs [stock keeping units] will help AMD to better position its models and make them appealing to particular customers with unique needs.

In addition to the model FX-8120 (which will be available in 95W and 125W flavours), which fills the gap between the FX-8100 and FX-8150 and allows AMD to broader the lineup of expensive eight core-chips, AMD also plans to introduce high-speed quad-core FX-4170, which will have default clock-speed of 4.20GHz and will thus offer extreme performance for its price-point.
But while it looks like AMD will offer more Bulldozer-based products this year than originally anticipated, it will start to roll them out only in mid-October, the same source indicated. The reason for the yet another delay of Bulldozer-based offerings is unclear, but AMD is set to begin production of the final versions of Zambezi in early September, which probably means low volumes of the products that will be available in the coming weeks.
