http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15400984Quote: Steve Jobs said he wanted to destroy Android and would spend all of Apple's money and his dying breath if that is what it took to do so.
The full extent of his animosity towards Google's mobile operating system is revealed in a forthcoming authorised biography.
Mr Jobs told author Walter Isaacson that he viewed Android's similarity to iOS as "grand theft".
Apple is suing several smartphone makers which use the Android software.
According to extracts of Mr Isaacson's book, obtained by the Associated Press, Mr Jobs said: "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
He is also quoted as saying: "I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong." The rest of the article is interesting to show how relations between Google and Apple deteriorated. Android looks like it will survive and google is doing great. Bitterness surely didn't help Jobs who evidently got his wish ...

Where did apple get the idea for the GUI for Lisa and Macintosh back in the day? They certainly didn't invent it or the mouse. Those ideas came from a visit by Jobs to Xerox's Palo Alto Research Centre, who had developed the tech long ago and then did nothing with it.
Is that "Grand Theft" also?

Is that "Grand Theft" also? No, the Xerox management didn't see any value in the technology. Steve Jobs negotiated the rights to use the technology in his own products (Xerox got Apple shares in return). So he didn't 'steal' anything, it was all legal. He just exploited the fact that Xerox didn't have any idea how valuable their technology was. Jobs had the vision that all the other companies seemed to lack at the time. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011 ... ntPage=allQuote: So Jobs proposed a deal: he would allow Xerox to buy a hundred thousand shares of his company for a million dollars—its highly anticipated I.P.O. was just a year away—if PARC would “open its kimono.” A lot of haggling ensued. Jobs was the fox, after all, and PARC was the henhouse. What would he be allowed to see? What wouldn’t he be allowed to see? Some at PARC thought that the whole idea was lunacy, but, in the end, Xerox went ahead with it.

Steve Jobs oversaw Apple from a failing company to the biggest tech company in the world. That is beyond amazing. But, the more I hear about his personal life and his personality, the less respect I have for him and his legacy.

Its interesting to see apple fear Google and not Microsoft. I prefer the ability to customize android, personally, and I like the ability to choose any carrier I want.
MS and apple should both fear the open source movement.

SickBeast wrote: Its interesting to see apple fear Google and not Microsoft. Not if you know their history. When Apple was down in the dumps, Microsoft bailed them out. Microsoft is still a big Apple shareholder, and one of the largest developers of Apple software (people forget about MacOffice?). So Apple and Microsoft have a very special relationship. They don't really see themselves as competitors, since Apple has always considered itself a hardware company first and foremost (which has only been reinforced by their ventures in iPod, iPhone and iPad-land). Microsoft doesn't really care about the 'competition' from OS X. As long as you need Apple hardware to run it, it is not a real threat, since the PC clone market is much larger. Besides, even Apple users use Windows, via Bootcamp. Aside from that, OS X is just another platform for Microsoft to sell software on.

Looks like Steve will get his wish.
The big Carriers said that they will put an end to supporting Android once the deal is done.
Android's will not be around much longer due to Corporate collusion for big money and control as usual.
