AMD has stated that they're shipping for revenue on their new cards this quarter.

Don't care though, since I'm skeptical those cards are going to perform 30%-50% better.

"shipping for revenue" just means the chips are shipping to their partners
- they have to actually make the video cards, the packaging and the accessories need to be gathered and they have to start on an ad campaign,

December at the earliest

How do you think the cards will perform? People seem think it's going to be the 2nd coming. LOL. Honestly, cards like the 6950 are overkill for the average consumer.

i think the emphasis is on power consumption

i think the new HD 7970 will trade blows with the stock HD 6990

That would be awesome, but expect a price mark up!

I guess the 7870 (or whatever) will likely be as fast (slightly faster) than a 6950.

That is pretty much what each generation has done to the previous one.

Some are saying however, that AMD will be introducing completely new architecture - so anything is possible

Fermi wasn't a great leap over the previous generation for older (DX9) games.

You do realize that "shipping for revenue" does not mean that consumers will be able to buy them? It just means AMD is shipping to the card makers so they can assemble and package the cards.

Then the card makers will ship to e/retail outlets.

Which means they're close to release. I didn't indicate that they were coming out this quarter; even though it's possible.
