Shipments of 3D LCD panels reached 21 million in 2011, representing a 26 percent gain and taking up 10 percent of all LCD panels. That's according to an NPD DisplaySearch study released Wednesday.

to all you naysayers; the ones who said it would never take off

:P

Well it IS the future
- Get used to it

Yeah, and with DX11.1 (Windows 8, quad-buffering support), S3D is about to become mainstream faster than a cat can say "meow"!

The OLYMPICS will be broadcast in 3D
:hello:

That will drive adoption

Next gen consoles will also

AND .. most important to remember if you are considering gaming in S3D:
Passive S3D SUCKS (except for cheap, entry-level - and especially for the kids; glasses are dirt-cheap) but the 120Hz displays are WORTH IT for fast paced shooters for 2D - never mind playing in 3D, just consider S3D a bonus. Playing in 2D on a 120Hz display is SO much clearer; you have to see it for yourself

It blows my mind that there are those who diss FXAA but tolerate the Blur-O-Vision fest on their 60Hz monitors when playing shooters.

And after you get the 120Hz display, the active shutter glasses are then relatively cheap

Finally, Nvidia's 3D Vision 2 is far ahead of AMD's partners like TriDef in regards to support. Actually, there is no comparison. HD3D doesn't have the support from AMD that Nvidia gives to 3D games.

Yes, only 90% of the market left to conquer! (joint)

If it's the future (debatable) then it's the far, far off future. I'll probably be ready to shuffle off of this mortal coil by the time it (possibly) takes over.

Far off future???

i will predict that within 5 years all new (other than bargain bin, entry level) HDTVs will have the option for S3D built in; relatively soon, S3D will be featured in 95% of all new sets sold.

This is what excites consumers, not 120 hz and not 3D. Back when g80 was new, that was an easy $2500.

It's from a Dick Smith Electronic catalog, you ninny! :P Though, I guess most consumers are women where household goods are concerned, so you could be right!

I believe this as well and simply be a default feature for consumers to use if they choose.
