I use EVGA's Precision at the moment with a 470sc
I want to know what a safe OC would be for this. I don't want to go overboard!

Currently at these stock settings in Precision....
Proc clock-- 1250
Mem Clock-- 1701
Fan speed-- 45 (I adjust this according to what game I'm playing) Usually around 60.

What are stock clocks?

The safest way to find a stable overclock that does the most good is to clock it as high as you can before the temperature starts to spike when under load. I never touch voltage unless it is to stabilize an OC that is right on the edge of stable. Mostly OCs are set by user trial and error and it is pretty individual to each card.

You'll be limited by temps/fan noise on a 470 before you ever have to worry about hurting it.

Single card at 900 core Crysis 2, background SLI running BF3 at 950 core :)

Cards are tanks though from what I've seen, your problem will start and end at the cooling solution.

I really prefer to bios mod my cards once I know their stable overclock. I used nvflash and fermi bios editor to do it. It's pretty simple and there are tutorials online.

Otherwise just use Afterburner and slowly move up your clock speeds and voltage. Just take it easy with the voltage and watch your temps. Some people tweak the fan speeds as well but I prefer my cards to be quiet so I tend to leave it alone.

So in EVGA's Precision, what is Processor clock? I mean, everyone I ask has some other program they use and uses different terms as above.

I am not using any other program to OC, just Precision. Like I said, I want simple and don't want to go overboard. I am not going to do any voltage tweaks.

Processor clock = Shader clock.

They're locked with Fermi so raising one automatically raises the other.

With your 470 unless you're on an insane resolution don't bother with the memory clocks until you find your max stable core clocks.

So, should I start with 1800 Shader clock and try playing a game and watch temps, or should I lean back a little?
Like I said, I am totally new to this.

I think I'm foregoing a new video card this year and waiting to build a totally new rig next year. Transformers....... More than meets the Eye! (ROFLMAO)
As long as I'm good with D3, I'm set!

Just tried 1800 shader clock and it locked......... Had to hard restart.

No 1800 shader/processor would be 900 core, that won't happen without improved cooling and added voltage.

lol silly goose :)

Try 1400, stock mem.

Tried what you said. I don't see that much of a heat increase at 60 fan speed. Played a 34.5 mile (13min) track on NFS Hot Pursuit and temps were about the same.
I know that's not much of a stress test, but it looks good so far.

Let's boost it some more >:)

Suggestions?
