My laptop never gets switched off, and it is where anything important (web browsing/email/office etc) happens.

My big machine is for gaming only (maybe some stuffing around with video and pictures occasionaly). I couldn't give a damn how fast it loads windows. Quite happy with the green 5400 rpm drives it uses. It's not exactly slow to boot either, compared to the AMD system.

You really don't have a clue about SSDs and your ignorance on this subject is really evident to everyone who has one.

I've used PC's with SSD's in them. I don't care to have them in my own system.

And they most certainly will not increase Skyrims visual detail for me.

They are expensive, unreliable and wear out. Not to mention they "improve" aspects of the system I don't even care about improving (not when I can spend the same money on a better CPU or GPU or more memory).

Because he hasn't really "used" PCs with SSD's in them

All of his arguments are completely ridiculous to anyone who *really uses* a SSD. We would not willingly go back to HDD. Price is the only thing that stopped me before.

I never said anything remotely like that.

What I said was when you configure/mod skyrim to show more detail, memory usage climbs.

you are using all these mods?

Yes you should try 4gb out for youself. I've provided my ini files, showed how to generate Distant LOD, and here are the 3rd party mods I use.

and you believe you extra ram helps? well whoopie do do good for you. Man you go through all kindsa bologna to try to prove a point to which your not even willing to actually test and prove. I am starting to wonder even if those mods will make a big difference or any perceivable one at all while running a 32bit game.

I would put 1000$$$ that an ssd system with 4gb of ram would do everything smoother and faster than an 8gb system with old timer drives in it. It would even run all those mods better. load faster and hitch free.

Apoppin, it would be great to see your view. You are uniquely positioned and have much experience with a 4gb ssd system. When you do your 8gb ram test, maybe you could do some test with just a regular hardrive on it. I bet the 4gb with ssd stomps the 8gb without it in the mud!

but back to grstanford
i dont get why you say you have to be homeless with an emachine to be running with 4gb of ram. I also dont like the fact that you compare it to ppl using windows 3.1. Its like your insulting people for not doing exactly like you. Like you got to be a bum to run 4gb? wth????

(ROFLMAO)

Price is dropping, they are quite reliable and everything wears out - it's called entropy.

Whatever you reckon apoppin. I've done plenty well before you. Dual core CPU's, multi-GPU, hyper-threading to name but a few.

I've tried SSD's and I do not like them for a host of reasons.
