Wow! Prices are dropping faster than i thought they would. Kingston was wrong last year when they predicted that prices would not be under a dollar a GB by now.
And just about any decent SSD will save a lot of time over a HDD - you don't need the absolute fastest. -- that said, i am going to compare Ivy's higher bandwidth with SSDs.
And i would love to evaluate one of the Seagate Hybrids. They should make the flash drive capacity bigger, from what i have read, i think.

Some videos and screenshots showing the sort of detail I get in Skyrim. Note the frame rates in the screenshots. Note the videos were captured at 2650x1600 screen resolution, thus are very jerky and slow, and the water is a bit badly behaved in some as a result. Also, my version of FRAPS is old and doesn't know what FXAA is, so things might look blurrier than they actually when you are actually looking at the screen. I strongly suggest downloading the vids from youtube in original MP4 format and viewing at 2560x1600 screen resolution if possible. I have no idea what evil horrors youtube inflicts on its scaled down video versions, but it won't be what I recorded. I'd urge people to compare with the stock game and also the launch trailer I'll be fascinated to hear Ocre's thoughts ............

Sorry about the camera control in the videos, but FRAPS recording Skyrim @ 2560x1600 is really hard on the system, almost impossible to control the game while recording.

That would help. I could record to a RAM disk. But seriously, the PCI-e bus is loaded with geometry and SLI traffic, plus a copy of the framebuffer 30 times a second thanks to FRAPs recording, plus a SATA channel is working flat out to record the data, plus the memory is already pretty full.

There is another utility which promises less overhead than Fraps (actually 2, but only one is free) and the ability to take better video. i posted a link to it here. Of course, i can't find it now. No time! i'll look later.

I'll bet an SSD would help.

I can record video to a ram drive just as easily as to an SSD. The System RAM is more useful.
