Dudes, this GTX 690 is a lot like the original 9800GX2. Soon, a dual-GPU bigK card will over 80% of the GTX 295 that came after the 9800GX2, in comparison. My bet!

BUT

The prices right now are horrible for all 28nm cards.

What visual does an extra $200 price on video cards give you right now, other than in 3D (only GTX 670 is barely worth it)?

GTX 690 is like the first "stupidly expensive" Lamborghini/Ferrari class of its own, really. Perhaps I should add a new class for it..

-UPDATE - Added new class, Tier AA.

-Also finally added Intel HD 4000 Graphics (which I forgot, after waiting for some more benchmarks a while ago..), rated at 16.7 Voodoopower (take that, Radeon HD 6450)! ;)

What if Haswell beats Trinity A10 HD 7660D (or whatever AMD has out at the time)?!? AMD better not let this happen..

I doubt it though, anyways. If HD 7660D is indeed a good deal faster than Llano's best offering (by at least 25%), Intel would really have to make Haswell a full 100% faster than Ivy Bridge, in raw GPU power. With Ivy Bridge already being 48% faster than Sandy Bridge, this would be even more massive leap for Intel - do you think the rumor of Haswell being 2-3x faster is really plausible?

Still waiting for HD 7970M and 7870M to actually be available with some real benchmarks...

-UPDATE - added a few mobile GPUs to the list:

HD 7970M - 147 VP!!!!!!

GTX 675M (just a renamed GTX 580M)
GTX 670M - 84 VP

HD 7870M - 78 VP

HD 7850M - 70 VP

I need to do some more research on the Kepler-based notebook GPUs (GTX 650M, 660M, and 680M), since they're a completely new architecture and very difficult to gauge.

Guys, guess how many VP gtx 680m should have - Or simply how much faster than hd 7970m overall w/o physx cuda or s3d, as closely as possible??? :)

It's harder because the actual clocks are now dynamic on the Kepler... And last I checked, nobody could confirm if the turbo boost was working for the laptop versions :banghead:

Yo, added HD 7970GE, rated at ...

244 Voodoopower!

However, it's noisy like hell - worse than GTX 590, and eats about as much electricity as GTX 580. It's basically an overclocked and overvolted HD 7970. Personally, I would not recommend it over a GTX 680.

Interesting how the new GT 640 (aka GK107) does not feature any boost clocks..

With DDR3 at only 128-bit width, the otherwise impressive chip is seriously bastardized by the bandwidth. Nvidia, what are you waiting for? Just go ahead and release the GDDR5 version to give this chip some breathing room.

GT 640 added, rated at 45 VP.

reviews on GT 640:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5969/zota ... 40-review- (this one shows GT 640 to be performing in better light than the rest)
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gef ... ,3214.html
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/graf ... -gt-640/3/
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zota ... ce_GT_640/
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-C ... 7-no-GK104

(I'll be back to add GT 630, 620, 610 cards which are really Fermi-based, and also the OEM versions which are Kepler-based). If GPUs keep on getting more and more complicated like this, with the boost clocks and whatnot, continuing this Voodoopower rating project will become oh so much more difficult. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: It's a nice day today - going to the beach for the 4th of July! Last summer, a marine cop pulled me over for doing jetski stunts because there was so many boats around, making sure that I was not under the influence! I had to use some tact and respect, and let him smell my breath (blowing it hard across his face, making him squirm).. (fart)

Quote:
Without Enduro, the HD 7970M is marginally faster than the GTX 680M. With Enduro, the AMD model is slightly outperformed.

However, several results suggest that the GTX 680M could do better as well. We were somewhat surprised that several Nvidia-favored games actually ran more smoothly on the HD 7970M.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-GeF ... 110.0.html

Enduro is buggy for now.. The Voodoopower ratings do not take the presently crippling Enduro into account - most of the time when gamers play demanding games on their notebooks, they play with it plugged in otherwise it would not even last 1 hour anyways.

Many forum users were claiming that GTX 680M is faster than HD 7970M, but the actual clock speeds (and the fact that GTX 680M does NOT use turbo boost unlike its bigger desktop twin brother, GTX 670) make this a very hard claim to back up with facts. The review quoted above concedes that HD 7970M is indeed faster than GTX 680M even in the Nvidia-favored games.

GTX 680M 4GB is presently rated at 143 Voodoopower, losing out to HD 7970M rated at 147 VP.
