Memory speed is part of the IP comparison. If i upgrade both platforms completely, then you will have much more information on the IPC

How high does this memory clock to? It appears stable at 2000MHz which is where i will test it at on Bloomfield to try to get as much a difference as possible compared to 1200MHz where it was before.
KHX1866C9D3K2/4GX (is what Kingston sent me) - Memory for 1866MHz.

i was able to get 1200MHz (Kingston KHX1800C8D3/2G) on my i7-920 with the way the memory dividers are set at 4.2GHz; strangely it wasn't stable at 1600MHz unless i dropped the timings. The same RAM ran 1366MHz (default) in Ivy which is where i compared both of their defaults.

This "detour" is interesting. And i think i will leave my RAM speeds at 2000MHz from now on. There is a noticeable framerate improvement going from PC 1800MHz at 1200MHz to PC 1866 at 2000MHz

For example, Vantage climbed from 50759 to 51579 and Heaven 3.0 went from 98.7 to 100.8 fps, the only difference being the RAM speed (4GB/i7-920 at 4.2GHz/X58)

Sorry for the delays in getting to my reviews. But the end results should be worth it (and several quick evaluations should come out in a row; i am still writing my Noctua NH-DH14 CPU cooler evaluation and Thermaltake Overseer RX-I case review)

Exactly! This is just the "overview" of a platform transition from X58 to Z77. You are getting the highlights. And it will transition into the ECS MB evaluation which will use many of the same benches; then the EVGA MB.

Finally, i'll come back to memory on the Ivy platform when i specifically examine the new Kingston RAM vs the old; and on to 4GB vs. 8GB, although i will just touch on it in the overview. And i am only using the GTX 690 as the fastest single video card to attempt to show differences in memory speeds. The trend will be clear; i can always do GTX 680 and HD 7970 GHz testing in a follow-up as time and interest permit.

Anyway, expect a bit of a delay due to the extra benching on the IPC eval. i just want my platform *complete* .

It's no great surprise that faster memory will make a noticeable difference where the system is designed to be able to utilize faster memory speeds.

The worlds memory manufacturers should spend less time whining about how tiny their profits are and more time ugrading their fabs to enable high-end memory to be mass produced and profits would follow!
