Well, AMD at 6% must be better then, and try asking anyone on the street to identify a phone or tablet with AMD innards.
I guess the ARM work at nvidia during a recession has kept the engineers busy though. I still say they are better off developing mobile GPU cores that others can use and forgetting about ARM cpu's though.

Nvidia is already *committed* to ARM.

They were committed to chipsets too. Commitments can change, especially when they are not orthagonal to the core business of the company.

They still have a chipset business; their same engineers are still designing chipsets, but not for x86

It's related to their mobile platform. Yes they will need chipset design. Where did you hear Nvidia fired anyone recently?

i guess Nvidia stopped the x86 chipset business well before they started up mobile; interesting that your friend made that transition. Where is he based?

More fuel to the flame: http://www.bgr.com/2012/06/28/kindle-fi ... ch-amazon/TL;DR rumors of the amazon 10" tablet are resurfacing, saying it will be introduced in late July and will have a "quad core" cpu. The only CPU being used in tablets that is quad core is Tegra 3. Samsung does have their own quad core ARM tablet now, but currently it is only in their new galaxy SIII phone. If Nvidia were to score a "trifecta" of wins - being in google's tablet, microsoft's tablet, and Amazon's tablet.... I'd say not only would this reaffirm their business strategy change 2-3 years ago, it will propel Nvidia to massive sales gains in it's mobile division.
