we're dealing with 2GB of GDDR5 that comes clocked in at 6008MHz DDR. Looking above you can see that we're sitting on a 192-bit memory bus offering a total of 144.2 GB/s bandwidth.

It's hard to fault NVIDIA's upcoming GEFORCE GTX 660 Ti and for good reason. You're talking about a video card that is rumored to hit at the mid-$200 range yet performs like a video card priced $100 more. In this case we're talking about the HD 7950 specifically. You could argue that it can be compared against the more expensive HD 7970 at times, too.

On the flaws side of things, the GTX 660 Ti is plagued with the same issue as all NVIDIA video cards. As soon as we move to 2560 x 1600, the lead it had, generally disappears.

. . .

The problem for AMD, though, is that while this card is priced at levels around the HD 7850 and HD 7870, its performance is around that of the HD 7950 and HD 7970. You combine this with the fact that AMD really don't have any more room to move on price due to recent price drops. We really do wonder what AMD can do. NVIDIA do this excellent job of taking on multiple AMD models with just one video card and in this case, we see that happening again.

The GTX 660 Ti is going to be a fantastic model and we can't wait to see what partners do with it. While we might not like how NVIDIA treat us, we don't let it ever get in the way of our judgment and today we can again see that NVIDIA have put together a great model that is surely set to be really popular based on what we've shown you here today.

i read it already and am really impressed. Its fantastic. All this talk about how much a 192bit bus would kill performance, haha.

/whats the price gonna be. Is it really gonna be between 200 and 300? not $299. If it comes out anywhere near $250, what a deal. I mean mind blowing

Did you read where it falls off in performance with high AA/AF?

Getting into some AA / AF tests we can see that 1920 x 1200 isn't an issue for the GTX 660 Ti, but moving to 2560 x 1600, our FPS simply drops too much.

$299 seems a bit high as you can get a HD 7950 for about that now

it is an interesting card for sure. It's far less crippled than the cards in its price range are. AMD is in a bit of a situation seeing as the GTX 660 Ti 2GB is as powerful as a 7970 in many cases. It will be interesting to see how they react.

-- i doubt it

I could see the 7970 selling for $300 and the 7950 for $250 but that's as low as AMD can realistically sell them for IMO.

Honestly between the 7970 and the GTX 660 I would still take the 7970 because it's better at higher resolutions and has more vram.

Hey just as an idea, why don't you team up ABT with TweakTown? They seem to have a serious problem with nVidia similar to what ABT is going through with AMD.

Most of the people wanting to purchase a 660 Ti are not going to have 2560 res monitors or even multiple monitors, and who would want ATi's crap when they can have nvidia instead?

looking real close at this drop off and its not what you think. look at the 670 in those same games and the frame hit is nearly just as bad. look at the before and after and of the all the gk104s in the AA test. They all take a good hit.

There are always those who are looking to beat GTX 680 performance with a pair of 660 Tis. It would be OK for 19x12.

TweakTown doesn't test many new games and they apply AA/AF to even fewer games. i won't be able to really call this one until i get a GTX 660 Ti (hopefully) to test. However, it appears that the GTXX 660 Ti as tested takes a pretty solid hit with AA/AF especially comparing to the HD 7950 (which appears to be priced about the same $300)
:hello:

TT won't even answer our requests to exchange news links with ABT. :P

And one of the major differences between our sites is that i don't editorialize our issues with AMD like they do in every review about Nvidia.
- i got over it

i really dont see it. The 7950 is not 300$. it s more like 350$. Your welcome to average the prices on the egg. There are only a 2 that offer rebates from 349 with more costing over 350. The majority are 349

As far as tanking, like i said look at the hits the 670 takes mathematically. The 660 is not out of the norm.

Also my final note, the 1600p + AA results taking the huge performance hit.......well hopefully anyone with 1600p has enough sense to buy something more powerful than a single 660. hopefully anyway. as i really dont think thats nvidia's intended market for this card
