http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sectio ... le-8742818Quote: A gunman opened fire early Friday at a suburban Denver movie theater on the opening night of the latest Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 14 people and injuring at least 50 others, authorities said.
The gunman, who is in custody, stood at the front of the theater and fired into the crowd about 12:30 a.m. MDT at a theater at a multiplex theater in a mall in Aurora.
"Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire," Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said at a news conference.
Officers found the gunman near a car behind the theater.
"A gas mask, rifle, handgun at least one additional weapon (were) found inside," he said.
The suspect was taken into custody, but no name was released. Oates said there's no evidence of any other attackers. There was also no immediate word of any motive.

The philosophy behind the logic in giving everyone access to a gun is flawed. The risk outweighs the benefit.
This shooting happened right near Columbine.
IMO handguns should be illegal.

IMO handguns should be illegal. Didn't Canada just have a mass shooting at a Toronto party that left multiple people dead? Ah yes http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/201 ... ml?cmp=rssQuote: International media are focused on Toronto after a shooting at a block party in the city’s east end on Monday left two people dead and another 22 injured. ...
Toronto has witnessed a spate of brazen gun violence in the past few months. One man was killed and another later died of his injuries after a gang-related shooting on June 2 in a food court at the Eaton Centre, a downtown hub for shoppers and tourists alike.
On June 18, a man was killed in an execution-style shooting on the patio of an ice-cream parlour in the Little Italy neighbourhood. Two more gun-related incidents occurred on the Canada Day long weekend, one injuring a toddler who was grazed by a bullet and another involving a man who was shot in the chest during an altercation.

Because they are afraid of their own governments. Like in Syria for example. --what do citizens do when the law enforcement is turned against ordinary citizens for political reasons?

The citizens of the USA do not trust their own government. And the "right to bear arms" is guaranteed to Americans in the Bill of Rights.

jaydip wrote: USA is not Syria man.It probably has one of the best if not the very best law enforcement agency in the world It's not just the government but the possible invasion of other countries. Say, China decides to send 50 million soldiers into USA in an attempt to invade it. If none of us had the "arms", then it'd be much easier for them to invade. Also, the gov't would be far more TEMPTED to abuse their power if we did not have the power to defend ourselves. You know how some police guys suddenly "trip" on their power trips?

We need to outright ban handguns here as well. Our rules are tighter but our gangsters still manage to import guns from the US. What I find interesting is that these US killings tend to be done by crazy people whereas here in Canada it's the gang members causing all the trouble.
