Ah. So the poor don't live in your "fantasy land" where we all give them more of our hard earned money for doing nothing, but they also don't live in my "fantasy land" where they work for the same money.

Riddle me this GStan:
Why do you think American companies send jobs overseas and to Mexico? Oh yeah, lower wages and benefits. Because all companies care about is profit.

Do you think Obamacare basically equals a free HMO for these families? How about their rent and food assistance? Any chance that stuff adds up to $300 a week?

What if the government said,"Employ these guys making socks. You pay them $400 a week ($10/hour), we'll give you $300 week cash and pay their HMO.".

You'd have people used to being hated parasites making $35K a year with a health plan, and helping other people be employed and to solve the trade deficit.

Your way keeps people alive for doing nothing, my way helps people live real lives.

The employers you think will save the poor already sold them out to 3rd world nations for profit!

Oh, and humans have existed as "keeps people alive for doing nothing" for hundreds of thousands of years before capitalism and wage-slavery was dreamed up by rich controlling bastards......

My idea would work BECAUSE of the greed of the corps, not in spite of it.

What if you made it corps pay $300, govt pays $300 and buys the HMO? You think the socks can be made in Asia, and shipped back here for less than $300/week per worker? That's still a $30K a year job, not bad for low skill at all.

The PR benefits would be HUGE, all American labor, trade deficit dented, more jobs for American white collar.

The only problem I can think of is unfair competition with domestic labor that exists- but there is a lot of stuff just not made here anymore we could bring back.

Think of the effect that would have on the kids of these families - mom/dad isn't a welfare bum, they go to work and earn their keep like anyone else. I think even the welfare bums don't want to be for the most part, they want to have the dignity of paying their own way.

RE: Mod powers - RolloTheGreat - 12-09-2015

If you're not picking up it GStan, I've thought a LOT about this.

I lay most of the problems in this country at the feet of outsourcing of low skill jobs. The masses need to make a living wage for work that deserves a living wage for the economy to thrive.

Booze, dope, violence, crime- I think it's all fallout from people losing hope and knowing they can have a decent life.

I don't want to exploit the poor, I want to give them back their dignity.

I see guys like Apoppin collecting some Obamacare as a symptom of the condition. Want everyone working, contributing to the system like my wife and I.

Really?!  Why have they done precisely the opposite of what you say then?  If it is such a great idea surely they would have already done it!

[Image: ROFLMAO.gif]  [Image: joint.gif]

The simple truth is they (american business men) are rich controlling bastards who don't give a flying fuck about the well-being of ordinary people, only how much they can vacuum out of the serf's piggy banks.

They can't do it on their own, would require an overhaul of the whole welfare system. This would require the government working with corps to bring it about.

Anyway, you said I wanted to make the poor worse off than they are, so I told you honestly what I'd like to see done for the poor. I want them to become the middle class.

RE: Mod powers - BoFox - 12-09-2015

That's tough, dude. To subsidize all of the factory workers (actually doubling their wages if they earn minimum wage) would put an enormous burden on the treasury finances in the short term. Right now, the short term budget is the bottom line - never more than a year out. Lose $2+ trillion in the first year just because of this (despite the long term overall upliftment of the economy) - nobody wants to be in the spotlight taking flak for this at the end of the year.

I think it's a great idea, Rollo, though!! Like Ocre sang, I'll also sing my lala praise in your name, haha! Sickbeast thinks that Apoppin is nicer than you... Well, so far, you've been ALWAYS been nice to me, while Apoppin seriously gnashed his teeth at me many and a many times.

Trump screwed it up with his anti-Muslim sentiment... he gotta fix this real quick, ASAP, or else, he's doomed and Hillary Clinton is gonna win! I thought Trump was going to be more serious running for president (he was serious about Miss America losing her crown due to drug use, which was his own decision made, and having to deal with bankruptcies by 4 of his own companies - teaching him a lesson of humility but yet he had so many other businesses, and getting older, but since he was born in a crazy stupid rich family, he never really learns. He's definitely not a "self-made" American. His Dad did it all, and he's just the spoiled brat who takes his own wealth despite his own personal lack of integrity (loose tongue) for granted.

I'd just keep it to the fact that it's tough as hell for hopeful would-be immigrants from any other country to earn a green card here in America (like from Russia or from Honduras). Syrian refugees shouldn't have it any easier, period. No debate needed about this. Just make the immigration laws a bit tougher, not just because of the Syrian emigrants, but because of the Mexican emigrants flooding so many parts of America and bringing undesirable traits like drug smuggling, crime, lack of educated skill, etc.. Trump never really did grow up, it seems (although he got a real good perspective of many of the problems plaguing America).

I wasn't thinking the government do that for all factory jobs, there are still a lot of factory jobs here where people already make $30K and up. I was thinking the welfare programs be shifted to corps- what money is given out free now they shift to companies and people have to work for it.

A lot of things (clothing comes to mind) were outsourced due to cost of wages + benefits. I think companies would gladly bring them back if the govt picked up most of the tab. Not looking for a change in the entire economic system, just a shift in how assistance is distributed that I think would benefit everyone.

I laughed pretty hard when I read Ocre's chant. Sick Beast's theories I hold some sort of sway here are more a "reverse psychology" attempt to get his way (me banned) than reality.

"If you guys weren't in Rollo's power, you would ban him!"

Sick Beast, Apoppin, and GStan need to learn to get along with people and understand that not everyone has the same viewpoints or preferences. The "answer" to this isn't "ban those who disagree".

And what Rollo needs to understand is that most of the viewpoints and preferences he expresses on forums are delusional and diametrically opposed to the viewpoints and preferences of the vast majority of ordinary people.

A great example being his constant and tireless trumpeting of the XBONE over the PS4 with the justifications being "it plays last gen games!" (but not all of them or even the majority of them) and "You can watch/record TV with it!"

Ordinary people purchase new consoles in order to play the new games that come out on them, not to run their previous gen titles on it.

Ordinary people use their televisions and stb's to watch TV and record it they don't use their consoles.

This is clearly reflected in the sales results/market share for PS4/XBONE.

GStan:

Do you remember our conversation wherein I stated my GMC Sierra has more passenger space, can haul more, tow more, is faster, is safer, and can travel both on and off road, and you said a Yaris is cheaper to buy and drive?

And how I posted full size pickup trucks outsell economy cars here by a huge margin, all the best selling vehicles are full size trucks?

Did you say,"Gosh Rollo is right, I need a pickup truck!"? Or did you go on preferring economy cars?

This is kind of like that.

RE: Mod powers - RolloTheGreat - 12-10-2015

I'm not surprised the that in total about as many cars are sold as truck, what we were discussing in that conversation was the most popular individual vehicles, not classes of vehicles.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2015/07/02/top-20-best-selling-vehicles-june/29602727/

The 1st, 2nd, and 4th highest selling vehicles are full size trucks, with only one compact car in the top 5. (and I believe that one (Corolla) is a bigger car than a Yaris)

The situation is exactly the same, people here prefer pickup, they win on every buying metric but price to buy and own, but you prefer sub compact cars. (which is OK)

I prefer XBones, because the PS4 being able to run more games at 1080p doesn't outweigh what it doesn't do for me.

Well, I guess Sony won't write you any shill cheques, unlike M$, so of course you are going to pimp M$ hunk of junk!  Not even your own son agrees with you though!

Seriously?

I have no ties to MS. The only tie I ever had to them was I got a free Zen media player to beta test back in the day, which was a really cool device in the pre-smartphone era.

I have no monetary or goods ties to any firm save my employer.

I'm not a big gamer, so XBone's better media center abilities are my main draw.

You'd be surprised.  The Yaris is actually bigger than the Corolla.  it isn't a small car (except in name).

There is almost nothing in it for midsize vs small cars - 245,016 vs 208,880

Well, we may well be getting little car. Time for Rollo Jr to take over the Challenger soon, wife says she's going to look at little cars like CRV, Crosstech, RAV4, Cherokee, Trax to drive to work.

So I may get some first hand small car experience soon. We had a Cherokee on our Thanksgiving vacation, I liked it. (other than slow)

They are a lot bigger than what I remember them when they first came out.

It is the same size as a Honda Civic now.

RE: Mod powers - RolloTheGreat - 12-12-2015

I think that crew understands I have a pretty rock star life going on for "normal people". (no problems, no money concerns, retirement set, plenty of time to enjoy life)

So they hiss speculation about imagined problems I might have or my family "foiling my wishes".

Do I care if my son wants to play PS4? Hardly. I bought the thing for him, against his wishes. (not to mention I want him to have EVERYTHING he wants)

Do I care if my wife wants to drive a smaller car? Hardly. It suits her needs as she's going to shopping malls and restaurants every day. Parking a full size truck or big SUV sucks in these situations, so a small car works best for her. Not like I have to drive it.

If Sick Beast wants to fantasize I'm drinking my lunch and smoking my supper, it doesn't affect me in any way. I'll keep on tea totaling, exercising, and eating healthy. Going to be a millionaire when I retire, want a lot of time to spoil my grandkids.

RE: Mod powers - SickBeast - 12-12-2015

Retiring a millionaire? How did you manage that? You saved up? Is your work giving you a decent pension? How old will you be when you're able to retire?

I can't see myself ever banking a million bucks. Good for you if you were able to do it.

It ain't all about retirement, pal.  By the time you're 70, your mind is too dull to enjoy the nice things on Earth.  Gotcha!!!  Spank me if you need to!

My Dad went on to make $600,000 after taxes in 2007 with his engineering business, right before the economic recession, and then sold off his business recently.  And he still doesn't feel like a millionaire..   $5 million is rich, not $1 million.  Tongue

As far as $1m vs $5m goes, it's all relative. I'm rich compared to Apoppin, your dad is rich compared to me, guys with $30m are rich compared to your dad, guys with $90m are rich compared to them, etc etc etc..

I only try to be happy and secure. Cool

Dave,
You should make me a mod.

Rollo for Mod- Fair and Balanced.

I would not moderate any posters, freedom is the only way.

Rollo King has come,
His will is done,
His earth is my heaven.

I praise of thee,
he blesses me,
Oh Rollo, thy mighty!!!
Powerful smity,
Teach me your wonderful ways.

I shall follow you,
thru and thru,
my life forever spent,
as your unwavering servant.

This is a masterpiece!

Unfortunately..  you did it to a mortal!!!  You literally sacrificed your soul to a mortal rather than an immortal, forever and ever!!!!!!!  I wish there was something I could do about it, but I just have to accept what happened here in this harsh reality - all I can do is mourn for a while for your misguided demise..  let me take a moment here..

As a mortal, I hold no sway on Ocre's soul.

This was a good parody of feudal fealty though, very funny stuff. Really illustrated how crazy Sick Beast's assertions of "If you won't ban Rollo for preferring Xbone's you must be in his power!" claims were.
