Most phones these days are good enough. I am very happy with my LG G3 and it's getting quite old. I told my wife that she can use my hardware upgrade so she can get the new iPhone.

Now that most phones have 3-4gb of RAM, a fast processor, and a good camera, there really isn't much need to upgrade. I don't know anyone who does intensive stuff on their phones that need the latest and greatest. It's reached a point that I doubt most people would even notice a difference with the latest phones.

A lot of people I know are starting to realize it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I have used both and Android is better actually. I love my $30 128gb Micro SD card. How much would Apple charge me for that privilege? $300?
