Sam's Club Black Friday 4K TV Deals - SteelCrysis - 11-03-2016 http://4k.com/news/an-early-taste-of-4k-black-friday-deals-sams-club-discounts-on-4k-tvs-leaked-17197/ Wow, a 70-inch 4K TV for USD 1198. Not to mention the Xbox One S + Minecraft + Battlefield 1 + extra controller for USD 249. We can't watch sports, weather alerts, and news without live local tv. PlayStation VUE only has live network TV in a handful of cities, the rest of us have to switch back to OTA for live news and sports. Vue gets on demand versions of network tv, you can watch series the next day. RE: Sam's Club Black Friday 4K TV Deals - RolloTheGreat - 11-04-2016 In the USA, the only "live" tv services we have are Vue and Sling TV, both are as I've described Vue. There are roughly 84m cable and satellite subcribers in the US: http://www.fiercecable.com/special-report/top-9-cable-satellite-and-telco-pay-tv-operators-q1-ranking-comcast-to-twc-to There are 124m households in the US: https://www.statista.com/statistics/183635/number-of-households-in-the-us/ So 40m of us have no live sports, news, weather alerts without OTA digital tuners. I should note the largest issue with that tv is the poor performance and image quality. I only noted the tuner because it's an issue for cord cutters. http://www.techhive.com/article/3049219/smart-tv/cord-cutters-should-hope-vizios-new-smart-tvs-dont-spark-a-trend.html RE: Sam's Club Black Friday 4K TV Deals - RolloTheGreat - 11-04-2016 Quote:Not good for a PC monitor. Although the input lag is good, it doesn't support chroma for clear text. Lots of motion blur results in a trail following movement. I'm thinking you'll buy one of these tvs just because the reviews say it's bad, and start yelling about how they don't properly calibrate or use the right settings.
RE: Sam's Club Black Friday 4K TV Deals - RolloTheGreat - 11-05-2016 Quote:As soon as viewers are slightly off axis, the picture deteriorates. It has one of the worst viewing angles that we measured. Quote:The TV has a full-array backlight, but doesn't have good local dimming performance. The entire screen dims, including bright objects, and highlights flicker. Quote:Fast motion appears blurry Quote:Cable content will also look soft after being upscaled. Small details like the small ripples on the sail protective covering are lost. Quote:The Vizio E Series 4k 2016 is an terrible TV for anything with fast motion. During fast moving gameplays objects will have a long visible trail that will follow them. Quote:This TV is horrible when it comes to dealing with motion blur, there is a long trail behind the logo that can be seen fairly well. The response time is quite high as well with most of the transition taking a fair amount of time. The backlight of the TV isn't flicker free, which may annoy some. I see what you mean GStan! If you don't watch TV (on the TV), or play video games where things move around, and don't mind it flashing at you, and only have one chair right in front of it, this is a mediocre TV! Of course if you do all those things everyone does with a TV it's kind of a piece of crap, but who cares as long as you get one free, right? Shilling for Vizio these days? Or just trolling, as usual? Vizio has some good TVs, this one is not among them. This is a very important feature if you're planning to use a 4k TV for PC use. It's quite hard to find a decent 4k TV that supports 4:4:4 chroma. The manufacturers never list it in the specs and you're forced to read reviews or rely on anecdotal evidence. He knows $16K Yaris's are nowhere near as good to own as $50K pickups. He knows these TVs suck, and HiSense ones aren't much better. He knows there isn't much difference in PS4s and XBones in most games. The only reason anyone wants a 70" "computer/console screen" is to play video games and response time is one of the more important criteria? No. Flickering trails following things moving on the screen, blurry text, and bad viewing angles are part of a monitor as well. The main thing is: You cant convince me anyone is buying a 70" TV without the intention of watching TV on it. This is a bad TV. You may not have recommended this TV, but all you said about it is that people don't need a tuner, 4:4:4 chroma, or upscaling on a TV. By trivializing those issues, and ignoring the others (flickering, response time, and viewing angles) AND saying the review was rigged, you recommended this TV in effect. Or you are just trolling. (11-06-2016, 05:43 PM)gstanford Wrote: If Visio is cost cutting internal Chroma resolution to inflate profits and save costs then that situation may not continue much longer. I'd recommend anyone wanting a 4K TV right now to ensure that they get one that is HDR capable. That is more important than the TV also being 4K. As a person who has owned a HDR TV for 4 months I would say the jury is still out on that one. This TV has no HDR. Lots of people use TV's for something other than watching TV. If a TV has a bad tuner but is otherwise OK a simple solution is to use an external tuning box. Why would you think you know these things and the review site doesn't? From the review of my TV, Sony XBR65850D: Quote:Lowest 1080p input lag is achieved under 'Game' picture mode. The 'Clearness' setting under 'Motionflow' can be used to clarify action some more and won't increase the input lag (although it does darken the screen). 1080p input lag also stays low enough for some slower games when image interpolation is turned on, which is something that can't be said for most TVs. They obviously understand interpolation and game modes in their testing? They state on their drill down explanation of motion blur testing: Quote:Motion blur that you see on TVs influences how blurry fast movement appears to be on the screen. For the most part, motion blur manifests as a trail on moving objects, and is of particular importance for sports and video games. If you enjoy watching either of those things, it’s important to get a TV with minimal blur. I know you like to argue and say cheap TVs are good, but this TV has issues. A gamer would be better off with a good 65" from Vizio that is only $1299 at Best Buy any day of the week: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-2016 Does it make sense to spend $928 on a 70" tv that is rotten for gaming when you can get a good 65" TV for gaming for $372 more at most? AND you don't have to camp out at Sams for Black Friday, and battle mobs like an hyena in the jungle scrapping for a deer carcass? Not in my world. Wouldn't buy something junky when I could get something good for a couple hundred more. Doom 3, the original not the remaster, started off internal HDR rendering(now they almost all do internally)- unfortunately we don't have any PC monitors that support the standard(for consumer displays at least) nor is there a clear cut adoption of what color space to use for outputting it(TVs have adopted a DCP3 standard in a Rec2020 package). The only reason the above works is because Shield TV has been pushing to keep the latest and greatest features checked for a streaming box, we get PC games working with it as a side benefit. RE: Sam's Club Black Friday 4K TV Deals - RolloTheGreat - 11-07-2016 GStan, you can squirm, troll, and misdirect all you want, but the Sams Club Black Friday 70" TV just isn't really good for anything a person would use such a device for. I do think you should buy one though. As far as the 4K HDR content goes, when movies I want to see are available for rent in that format, I'll rent them. It looks like the new Star Trek movie is in HDR, I'll ask my wife to check if they have it at the video store next time she's there. Real life is definitely complex for one of us. I don't look at a pretty uniformly bad review of a TV like this one and think, "Well 70" TVs at this price point are pretty bad so I guess this one is OK compared to them" like you seem to be doing. I look at that review and think, "I'd better get either a really good 60" tv for my $1000., or try to find a fair fair 65" TV for close to this. 70" is out of my price range." When I bought my TV this summer I knew I wanted to spend $1500-$2000 and I looked at the pros and cons of all the TVs in that price range and tried to decide which would be the best for my room and uses. I did not say, "Yay, Haier has a 75" 4K TV for $1300! The specs aren't very good, but they never are at this price point and size, so the TV is OK.". Nobody smart shops like you appear to.
