The smokescreen of "gender equality" is no doubt being used to cover up the ulterior motive of cutting salaries for the employees.
Edit: This doesn't do jack shit for gender equality, and in fact hurts it, since what little negotiating power employees have is now taken away. Reddit can pay its employees whatever the hell it wants, discriminate in pay however the hell it wants, and in this economy, no one at Reddit is going to want to protest it for fear of being fired.
