It's to get costs down just like it is now cheaper to produce AMOLED screens than LCD so LCD is now being phased out.

They are probably getting desperate and are worried about HBM. HBM looks like it will be taking over completely at the high end soon and probably the midrange as well. With Fury Nano approaching $400USD now it's becoming mainstream already.

Newegg's cheapest R9 Nano is USD 470, but you are right in that R9 Nano prices are dropping.
