No mouse
#1
debi has managed to kill yet another laptop. She goes through them crazy.

This time there is no mouse, no cursor.

Have not been able to do anything with Windows to re-scan or download drivers.

Will try an external mouse but can't find one here at home for some reason.

I've told her I give up, that she will have to go to the Library to use a computer.

Dave I highly recommend Refurb.io and Dell Refurbished for laptops. Dell Refurbished regularly has crazy 50% off sales and you can get a really nice laptop for super dirt cheap.

I got a Dell e6420 through them and it's built like a tank and I've had no issues with it. It sounds like your laptop might be fully dead. Good luck!

Any news on the job situation or ABT in general?

No new news so still working. As long as still working will keep paying the hosting monthly bill.

Laptops are cheap now but shouldn't have to go through one less than a year.

Dave, I had an i7 HP Elitebook I sold about a year ago, every now and again the WiFi would disappear. I would just reset the bios to defaults and it would come back, a bug with the HPs I found online.

Worth a try.

Glad to hear you're still working, still think you should move site to a cheaper host. Not like you have any investment value here, or a vendor to serve any longer.

I forgot to mention. Every time you turn it on it goes through a sequence of flashing the bios.

Takes close to an hour for it to boot.

Did a search on this HP laptop and apparently a ton of people have been having these issues.

So wasn't debi's fault this time.

Bottom line is HP laptops are paper weights and never get one again.

That's a shame, HP used to be a good brand, that Carly Fiorina must have wrecked the Company.

Eh, that Elitebook I had was super nice compared to the Dell I have now.

Dave, I have brought Toshiba, Lenovo, dell, acer...many brands with many issues. Within a year, junk. Keyboard stopped working on one, the screen on one, the motherboard (best I can tell l, just nothing but black), and the last one would just lock up every 20mins.

Anyhow, I tend to like HP and right now that is the only brand we use. Have both the envy360 and
hp pavilion 360. These are probably my favorite laptops of all time..and I have had a lot of them.

Most impressive is the smaller pavilion. Its a 13inch skylake i3 6100u. I got this laptop for 440bucks on sale..its very impressive. The 6100u is snappy and honestly seems just about as fast as the i5 skylake is the envy. Looking at the specs, they are the same other than the i3 lacks turbo. Which on our envy, isnt even used most of the time. The pavilion seems snappier but that may be because that is the one I use and I keep my PCs in clean..os clean.

Anyhow, I had many laptops and a stream of bad luck. Now I am back to hp and so far so good

debi continues to be horrible with computers.

This morning she pined that the screen is sideways.

I refuse to help her.

I also heard things are even worse with HP products.

This time that printers now require a start up cartridge that only works one time.

Ridiculous

Thanks, she figured it out on her own but who knows how she gets these changes to begin with.

She swears the computer does all these things by itself.
