Gaben is so full of arrogant shit it's pouring out of my monitor. He couldn't learn from console history, Steam's history, or the stuggles of the HTPC form factor. If John Romero had done this interview, people would be calling it "John Romero's About to Make You His Bitch v2.0"
Nintendo learned the hard way that pride goeth before a fall, and Gaben's about to learn that fact the hard way. They're be burying Steam Machines in a landfill
a la Atari in 4 years tops.

Why is it we need these things again?
Even if you don't want to hook up your PC to the TV, couldn't you stream it with a Shield?

Uhm, where is the link that in any way comprehensible comes close to your rant? The one you provided just comes off as someone talking about their new product. For the record, I agree that Gaben is an arrogant fuck- but the link you provided didn't even give me a whiff of that.

That's what I do, and that way it works with all of the Windows games too.

The arrogance is in his "We will ignore all relevant examples. We will succeed just because I say so" attitude. That's up there with Romero.

All these years posting tech news and you expected him to say, "Well we're a day late and a dollar short. People can more easily connect PCs to TVs now, and stream through a Shield. Was a good idea when we came up with it, but now we're fucked."?
The only reason I can think of anyone going this way is if Linux offers some efficiency gains that make cheaper video cards perform like more expensive ones. (i.e. Without the Windoze bloat, my GTX970 is as good as a 980Ti!)
If that isn't the case:

Yes, I expect him to say something like that, only with "It wasn't a good idea even when I came up with it, thanks to a lack of exclusives." If
it's acceptable for John Romero to apologize for his infamous ad, Gaben is permitted to admit he fucked up.

With a net worth of $1.5 [I]billion[/b] and what he has done in life, this guy isn't likely to be an "Aw shucks, 'tweren't nuthin!" sort of fellow.

Arrogance is annoying though, I'll give you that.

See, Gaben is stupidly arrogant for thinking that we would all give up so much of the Windows stuff just to play a select few Steam games on a custom Linux-based OS.

Lots of people were filthy rich, who plummeted back to extreme despairs after their own stupidity caught up with them. That AOL guy, Steve Case (IIRC), the CEO of AOL which was once a
$222 billion company.... what does AOL have going for its company brand nowadays? The still (barely) alive and (very very hardly) kicking AIM?
Interesting top 10 list of the biggest loser companies:
