MoH Recipient Kyle Carpenter Involved In Hit And Run

What he didn't isn't serious, though it is still a violation of state law.

What burns me up is that people are defending him just because he's got a bronze boat anchor around his neck that I guarantee you he never desired once in his entire life. This one is especially awful:
Quote:You guys are absolute dicks for publicizing this Hero's unfortunate accident. Any other of you pricks that say he is the same as everyone else can kiss my ass as well. Enlist and serve your country, jump on a friggin grenade, survive years of surgeries then try to live a normal life; then have a car accident and have trouble deciding what to do because your brain doesn't function correctly...but...whatever you do from your recliners...don't show compassion for aa hero in trouble. Fuckin' keyboard commando's oughta be ashamed. Military times...i'm keepin a hard copy in the shitter to wipe with....no respect for any of you....Done!

All right, jarhead. Let's see what would happen if I did that.

If I did that, there would be no Medal of Honor for me, and probably not even the Navy Cross. Why? Because I'm not a poster boy. The days of 5'2" Rodger Young giving his life to save his friends and getting the MoH posthumously are fucking over. Not a single MoH recipient in recent times has been anything other than a strong-jawed, broad-shouldered poster boy. Not a single one of them looks anything under 5'11". I'm 5'9", have a mildly recessed jaw with no money to fix it, and my chest and shoulders are smaller than Audie Murphy's were at my age. And yes, I know this for a fact because I've read Audie Murphy's medical records here: http://audiemurphy.com/documents/doc063/...ecords.pdf

The surgeons wouldn't expend half the effort on me that they did with Carpenter, because I'm not a poster boy. I'd be in far worse shape afterwards. The loss of depth perception would devastate me and ruin my life, because I love my great depth perception. I'd be medically discharged, and the media would pretend I don't exist, while focusing on the medal-wearing poster boys. The VA wouldn't give a shit about me, and would give abysmal service to me that it wouldn't dare give to anyone with the Navy Cross, let alone the MoH. No one would care about me, I wouldn't be able to get employed, and I'd be tormented by the fact that my life would be a whole lot better if my body was ideal. I'd be on the brink of suicide when I hit a pedestrian. I would follow the laws that Kyle Carpenter didn't, and my reward would be to have beer bottles thrown at me in the news articles, and be sued into bankruptcy by the person I hit. At that point, I wouldn't be able to take any more, and I'd hang myself.

All because I'm not a poster boy. You'd hang yourself too, jarhead.

Poster boy??  It has nothing to do with what Kyle Carpenter looks like - it was his action of jumping on the grenade to save a life.  I'm 100% sure if it were you, you'd have received the same honor and care.

Don't worry about flesh too much!  Sometimes when I really think about it, I realize myself time and time again that flesh is overrated!!!  A couple white hairs on my head, argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitbull is only 5'7" and people are saying that they would still love him just as much if he were 4'!

Right now, I'm sick with bad throat infection - that started with a huge plate of oysters.  Been a few days since - now it seems to be just some kind of cold I hope.

About Pitbull, I don't know if actions would speak louder than words. Thanks for your comforting words. On a side note, it's one of the curses of my character that knowing there's no chance of my ever being eligible for something makes me feel like a failure. This can lead to me resenting others.

What I do know is that the awards process for the Medal of Honor ain't what it used to be. Rafael Peralta did the same thing Kyle Carpenter did and didn't survive. He didn't get the Medal of Honor, he got the Navy Cross instead. That's a slap in the face. The fact that he was an illegal immigrant studying to become a US citizen probably had everything to do with the sheer bending over backwards to avoid giving him the Medal of Honor. The process wasn't always like this. Back in WWII, you could be Sylvestre Herrera, who was in Peralta's shoes, become a hero, get your citizenship process sped up, and get the Medal of Honor. Not anymore.
