Mad Max Fucked Up Road

Academy Awards Epic Fail:

Ten nominations for Mad Max: Dumbass Road.

I couldn't believe my eyes, it literally appears to have been made by 5 year olds. Not smart 5 year olds either- 5 year olds you might see stuffing green beans up their nose.

Shockingly bad.

Hollywood has severely screwed the pooch on their patting themselves on the back.

There should be an all out boycott.

Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith Call for Oscar Boycott

Despite receiving an honorary Oscar at last year’s Governor’s Awards, Spike Lee posted on Instagram on Martin Luther King’s birthday Monday, saying he and his wife would not be attending the Oscar ceremony.

Lee’s statement said, “We Cannot Support It And Mean No Disrespect To My Friends, Host Chris Rock and Producer Reggie Hudlin, President Isaacs And The Academy. But, How Is It Possible For The 2nd Consecutive Year All 20 Contenders Under The Actor Category Are White? And Let’s Not Even Get Into The Other Branches. 40 White Actors In 2 Years And No Flava At All. We Can’t Act?! WTF!!”

He then lays out what he sees as the reason for the problem: “As I See It, The Academy Awards Is Not Where The “Real” Battle Is. It’s In The Executive Office Of The Hollywood Studios And TV And Cable Networks. This Is Where The Gate Keepers Decide What Gets Made And What Gets Jettisoned To “Turnaround” Or Scrap Heap. People, The Truth Is We Ain’t In Those Rooms And Until Minorities Are, The Oscar Nominees Will Remain Lilly White.”

Jada Pinkett got the ball rolling when she tweeted, “At the Oscars…people of color are always welcomed to give out awards…even entertain. But we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together?”

'Straight Outta Compton' Producer Will Packer Writes A Powerful Letter To The Oscars Over Diversity

In the wake of the 2016 Oscar nominations, many are speaking out against the films and performances AMPAS has decided to reward this year. First, there was Jada Pinkett Smith’s suggestion that maybe black actors, directors, and other members of Hollywood shouldn’t participate in the Oscars as presenters and performers if they weren’t going to be included in the stable of nominees.

Now, a producer of Straight Outta Compton, which probably deserved more than the nominations it received (especially one for Best Picture), has published a letter calling out the Oscars for their shortcomings in recognizing diverse projects and performers.

I hear you Dave, and believe that probably every movie made with largely black actors and every performance by black actors was probably better than "Mad Max".

What?!?  I liked the movie!  It was rather action-packed, sinister, adrenaline-pumping...  Big Grin

Tom Hardy was ok, though - as long as the focus was on the visceral hold-onto-the-seats emphasis of the entertainment we all wanted from an intense action movie (a serious subwoofer is a must for this) - I would've liked it better if he acted differently/better when he was parting from Charlize Theron at the end of the movie which was horribly cheesy and corny - like as if it was done with zero forethought or reflection of the entire background/story that led to the end.

I think Apoppin could have written that movie.

I fell asleep half an hour into it, woke up half an hour later, sad to find it was still on. Behind_bars

A serious subwoofer would've kept you awake with all of those explosions, gunshot blasts, etc!!!!  Time for you to upgrade yours to something like this one:

http://www.svsound.com/products/pc12-plus

Better yet, get 2 of those, and position them just right in your room.  Some floors might need an acoustic pad for this kind of downward-firing woofer that shakes the house.  SVS is one of the best quality brands around - 50x better and also considerably more powerful than Bose subwoofers that could cost just as much.

When I was playing Doom 2 back in 1995, I just couldn't get enough of my Altec Lansing subwoofer when firing double-barreled shotgun.  It really put a grin on my face.  This kid in me still wants more of the same stuff!

Hey, you could've just been real tired.  Sometimes when I'm so tired, I don't enjoy a movie the same way I do when I watch it later on (like when it comes on cable like 2 years later).  I'm like "Damn, I thought this movie sucked so bad that I fell asleep, but it's actually awesome!"

EDIT - I do agree that the movie sorely lacks depth, refinement and such, but it's like the Serious Sam or Painkiller type of PC games - not serious and mainly for the adrenaline entertainment alone.

The recent Star Trek movies were great, with a good deep plot to them...  putting the last 4 Star Wars movies to shame.  I can't wait for the Mass Effect movies (ever played the games?) to further show how the Star Wars movies should be made nowadays.

As shallow as the movie is, here's a profoundly well-though-out review of this movie from IMDB (400,000 people rating it at a stellar 8.2):

Quote:Overall Rating: 4.5 stars Cinematic value: 4.5 stars Big questions value: 4 stars Family value: 2 stars (This film has a mature rating due to the violence, take this into consideration before viewing)

We have not seen Max Rockastansky (Tom Hardy) on movie screens in 30 years. This is a welcome return to Max and the crazy, post-apocalyptic world of George Miller (Mad Max, Babe). Max lives an existence of sheer survival. As a former police officer and family man, he is now a tortured shell of the man of justice he used to be and merely wants to survive. After being captured by the leading cult forces of this futuristic wasteland, he finds himself in the middle of a pursuit of Furiosa (Charlize Theron) and the wives of the masked Immortan Joe (Hugh Keyes-Byrne). Max becomes the pivotal force to assist in Furiosa's escape and redemption. Mad Max: Fury Road becomes a race for life, redemption and hope. Shot in the barren desert of Namibia, the fight for life becomes an adrenaline charged chess match that in making the wrong move will cost you your life. No summary can do the action justice, except to say to is a new visual standard that needs to be experienced.

Mad Max: Fury Road is a lesson in conveying depth with minimal dialogue. George Miller delivers a masters class in story telling and stunt driven effects that successfully convey back story, cultural nuance and the justification of these desperate acts of disobedience and violence. Even as the fourth outing for this character, we are given a fresh storyline and wealth of new characters for a new generation. It is not necessary to see the original films to enjoy this chapter in Max's adventures, but it might be worth going back to watch the first two films in this anthology. The cast is captivating and effective in their roles, but they have to take a back seat to the energetic stunt work and effects. This world seems to be a maniacal and messy existence, but becomes an enjoyable, orchestrated primal experience. Who would have thought that through the Mad Max franchise Miller would be able to convey his cinematic brilliance and deliver this visceral masterpiece. Not to dismiss the acting, Hardy is brilliant as the tortured lead character and delivering a believable portrait of his desire to survive the present while mentally enduring his past. He is given minimal dialogue, but is able to become the heart of this post-apocalyptic tale. Interestingly, Hardy is not the primary lead in the film that bears his name. Charlie Theron's shining portrayal of Furiosa is the literal and figurative driver of the film. She manages to redefine feminine heroism for film makers. She has strength, purpose and a sacrificial depth that presses the story beyond a mindless chase scene. In a genre that tends to victimise or sexualise the female leads, Miller portrays a strong female led without any unnecessary feminist underpinnings. In masking her natural beauty, Theron is allowed to develop her strengths and vulnerabilities without making a political statement. Both Hardy and Theron are supported by an excellent supporting cast that moves this experience from a mere adrenaline rush to a story of fighting for your right to live, seeing that sacrifice is part of freedom and ultimately for the hope for redemption.

On many levels, Miller seems to realise that action without reason loses its purpose. In adding a spiritual component to Mad Max: Fury Road he allows for a narrative depth in the script. Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) is the cult leader in this dark, twisted world. His character delivers a dark and demented message of the need for effective leadership and that leaders need to provide people with purpose for their sacrifice, even if it is misplaced. This story shows that there is basic need for something beyond our material needs that gives society drive and direction. Also, the flower on this desert wasteland is hope. Even the jaded heart of Max is turned and assists in getting those under his charge to their promised land and in giving them hope in the bleakest of moments. This is an essential cinematic vehicle when placed against the backdrop of the depravity of mankind. Miller manages to capture this element and allows for the story to consider the realities of mankind's history and future. If the film does have a weakness, it would be in the conclusion. In all that they desire to achieve and find through this film maker's journey, the finality has an empty satisfaction. After watching a film like Mad Max : Fury Road it might be worth reading through Revelation. Fortunately, with the God of the Bible there is more we can hope for in the future.

Reel Dialogue: What are some of the bigger questions to consider from this film? 1. Where is real hope found? (Deuteronomy 31:6, Romans 5:2-5) 2. Can we find true redemption? (Psalm 111:9, 1 Corinthians 1:30) 3. Can we exist without others? (Proverbs 18:1, 1 Corinthians 12:14)

These movie critics amaze me at times with how much they analyze all the crap that they're watching.  Do these people ever really just let go and just enjoy the action?!?  Thinking too much hurts my head sometimes!

Here's my review of Mad Max:

In the future, some slobs live in the desert with their five attractive pet women.

Charlize Theron, an attractive woman made to look like a man, feels sorry for them so she rescues them.

The slobs all chase them in their tacky monster truck rally vehicles, spouting gibberish.

The women escape them, and find some old women.

They team up with the old women, and learn to cooperate with a handsome man to overthrow the slobs.

Along the way we get to see the handsome man's alleged hallucinations, and a heavy metal truck that a five year stuffing green beans up his nose dreamed up.

Hahahaha, that was a good one..    now, shut yer pie-hole and get out of here!

To equally insult all the players who liked Doom - here's my review of Doom 1/2 games:

In the future, you find yourself as a space marine stuck on a moon of Mars.

The place is overrun with vicious aliens.  All other space marines have turned into hostiles with an IQ slightly higher than usual zombies.  The same IQ also applies for the vicious aliens.

The journey continues until you find the biggest, baddest alien to battle.  After you defeat the cyberdemon, you find that there is still no hope whatsoever of leaving the moon - it's all DOOM.

DOOM was very simplistic, but horror survival doesn't have to be "deep".

Action movies don't have to be either, and probably shouldn't be. (E.G. "Kingsman" is not Shakespeare, but it was still a lot of fun.

No insult intended, in my opinion there's no right or wrong in taste in the arts. I could listen to the guitar in "Rock and Roll" by Lou Reed on "Rock and Roll Animal" most weeks for years. Leaves my son cold.

He likes some guy "Logic" and I don't get it at all. Art is all subjective, and personal taste.
