Wow, so stupid it actually is causing me physical pain.
Word association based on master race, really? Well, let's look at this from a slightly different angle.
Democratic National Party
Kennedy(all of 'em) "We are the Workers Party"
Bernie Sanders- registered Socialist
What was the actual name of the Nazis?
National Socialist Workers Party
Wow, look at that- the Democrats are associating themselves with the Nazis in a very tight fashion(don't misread this, I could find links for damn near anything- this just happened to be stupid easy).
Also implied is that Nazi's invented the idea of Master Race- as a rational and properly articulated line of thought that actually goes to Darwin. Homo Sapiens were the master race in comparison to Homo Neanderthalensis- that is a biological fact. As a societal mechanization- almost every monarchy in the history of Earth has used the underlying logic, all empires have exhibited varying degrees of preferential treatment due to ancestry throughout human history as well. It is shockingly stupid to imply that the concept of 'Master Race' was somehow created by the Nazis(even if you want to use brain dead racism, the KKK was pushing it long before Hitler came around, Custer et al prior to that and on and on and on).
The most amusing part to me, going back to the Darwin element- now more than ever there is a direct ancestral line and it is in quantifiable measures accurate to use 'master race' when discussing the PC in relation to the consoles. It is evolutionary.
It is too bad the author of this article is a borderline idiot. I understand he is only doing exactly what McIntosh has told him he is to do, but he should at least do something to protect any integrity he had before flushing it all away on this pathetic piece of wannabe political furor.

Wow, so stupid it actually is causing me physical pain. "National" in the Nazi's name (which was Nationalso zistische Deutches Arbeiterpartei) referred to their nationalism, not their reach. When they adopted that name in 1920, they definitely weren't a national party.
Meanwhile, blah blah, Nazism was a scavenger ideology. That doesn't change how the Nazis defined master race, and doesn't change what master race means to us now–a superior race to be benefited at everyone else's expense. As the article points out, the "PC master race" and their use of the word "peasant" has issues given Nazi ideology's use of peasants:
Quote:The other problem I have is with the way the word “peasant” gets thrown around in these conversations. The Nazi party had a view of farmers and the peasantry that could be politely described as “bipolar.” On the one hand, appeals to the peasantry and the land were a critical component of Nazi ideology, which glorified the German farmer and rural living. The doctrine of Blut und Boden (Blood and Soil) held that simple farmers were the bedrock of German society, a bulwark against invasion, and set a moral compass that those living in cities had forgotten. This glorification was more rhetorical than practical — Germany did not attempt to systemically dismantle its cities or force its population to return to rural, agrarian living.
The problem with juxtaposing “peasant” and “master race” is that the Germans only held German peasants in such high regard. Their plans for peasants in the territories they captured were spelled out in the Generalplan Ost. Put simply, Germany intended to resettle dozens of millions of people, starve them to death through food shortages, and keep the peasant stock on-hand to serve as a slave labor and agricultural force.
As the German population in the conquered territories rose, a select group of people of Slavic descent were to be selected for “Germanization.” Everyone else was either worked to death or deported to locations like Siberia. Education for the peasants living in Poland and Eastern Europe was to be limited to the most basic level possible, their cultural expression was to be banned, and their children would be kidnapped and taken to Germany to be forcibly reeducated. The long-term plan was to sterilize the Polish peasantry, forbid them to marry, and ban all medical aid to people of Polish descent. They’d be worked until they died, at which point German populations were projected to have grown enough to populate the areas left behind by the other ethnic groups.
Again, I’m not accusing people who refer to themselves as the “PC Master Race” of wanting to commit genocide against so-called “console peasants.” But there’s an incredibly ugly history behind this language, and as someone who studied both history and political science, I wince when I see this kind of language flung across our comment threads.

Errr, yeah, and Master Race was about their ethnicity, not their race. I was pointing out how moronic it was to say the Nazis used certain words so anyone that uses those words is wrong- in both instances they used them improperly.

They wanted them all shipped away from them, kept around until their replacements were ready and then disposed of........ kind of exactly like a console? People kill millions of bacteria a day when they put on deodorant- I think everyone understands that there is a difference between killing odor causing germs and human beings. Apparently it is far too much to ask that people don't understand the difference between a piece of electronics and a human- well, any reasonable person would see that but McIntosh's agenda and reason do not go together.

The master race was about race, not ethnicity. The master race in Nazi theory consisted of several varieties, with the Nordics being the best. The Nazis thought the Scandinavians were probably more racially pure than themselves.

Apparently it is far too much to ask that you should understand that people can recycle Nazi attitudes and at a minimum expose themselves to social danger.

There is no other race. There are other species. Tell an anthropologist that a Neanderthal was a race and get laughed out of the academy. Being bigoted against people because of their piece of electronics, and recycling Nazi language to do it, is at a minimum a danger to the social interaction between PC gamers and console gamers. And potentially a lot worse.

The particular element we were discussing was one based on what they believed to be biological science. There is one biological human race. They misused the term race in their discussion.

That has *NEVER* been what it is about- it has always been about the electronics themselves. Always.
Quote:and recycling Nazi language to do it
Back to the fact that the Democratic party *also* recycles Nazi language. I could probably find Hitler himself using every word you have in this thread- in no way whatsoever does that prove a thing. Nothing.

Actually derogatory language towards those that share a common hobby but support it from a different angle has been commonplace in human society for thousands of years. Gambling is one of many offshoots of this. Only the most pathetically weak people imaginable find this as disturbing social interaction. Given the context of this particular discussion, that would normally fall under the category of 'male bonding'.

That was until they took aim at the "console peasants".

Because the Nazis took the socialist part of their name so seriously. Or the Democrats are so nationalist.

You do realize you aren't even remotely close to being in my league yet, right? My point was they are just random words the Nazis used, sometimes improperly. Your counterpoint is that the Nazis used words improperly. Fucking really?

Of course I said there is no other race. Just because there is no other race doesn't automatically mean there is a race to begin with. There is no other race because there is no human race.

Twenty years or more we have been using Master Race and Console Peasant.
Quite frankly I hadn't ever taken a side on it because I tend to game on anything, now I have to change my position.
If a couple of words whose meaning has been implied and modified in all of history used in a very normal social context is deeply offending to people, I will have to side with the Master Racers.
Twenty fucking years it took to figure out you should be offended, and now it's a big fucking deal? Seriously? How fucking pathetic are people that they have to look that hard to try and be offended.

What changed was whiny ass little bitch special snowflakes. The world has to be an echo chamber blanketing them in utter ignorance without a contrarian word to be heard.
Worst.
Generation.
Ever.

I've been online for a couple decades now, I have a very lengthy established track record- I am of the opinion if you download *a* song illegally you should go to jail. I'm not some entitled little shit that thinks the world owes him anything- like most of you do with money, school, medicine, healthcare. I'm the guy that thinks everyone should pay their own way. You have strenuously disagreed with that, but you haven't seemed to be very opposed to obscene levels of hypocrisy either so maybe, for reasons I can't fathom, you think people should pay for their games, after the government gives them everything else?

Why are the Millennials such pathetic intellectual cowards? What happened that made them so crippled to deal with a differing point of view, where they can't take a look at their own perspective and gain resolve from hearing a differing mindset?
From there, how did we get to this pathetic excuse of conversation where anything that *may* *possibly* *somehow* be offensive to *anyone* *EVER* should never be uttered? It is absolutely insane, and completely ignorant. This is not a left versus right thing, this is a thinking versus drone thing. Bill Maher has lamented how pathetic this trend is from those mainly on the left of the political spectrum.
Quote:I don't like to bash others simply because I game on PC and they don't.
In every other, better, generation- if someone drove a Ford truck, he bashed the guy with the Chevy and vice versa. The Metallica fans bashed the Megadeath fans and vice versa, the Coke drinker bashed the Pepsi drinker and vice versa, Spider Man fans bashed Super Man fans and vice versa, AoE fans bashed Starcraft fans and vice versa.
The difference was, people couldn't comprehend how anyone could be weak enough to actually get offended at that shit. It is trash talking, ball breaking, it is normal- it is said in good fun and puts people in a position to get a better appreciation of both sides of an issue.
Spirited discourse is healthy. The fucking echo chamber is a blight on free thought.
Edit-
Quote:I don't like to bash others simply because I game on PC and they don't.
You bash Rollo for supporting the XBone you fucking hypocrite. Yes, I do too, and you know what? When he fires back at me I don't go find crayons and hum to myself, I fire back again and try to hit him harder.
When the rest of you go at it with Rollo you get all emotional and upset and have to take breaks. I'll tell you something, I know it's true of myself and I bet it is of Rollo too- when him and I go at it, I'm almost always laughing when I reply to him- seriously. It is a couple people who have common interests having a disagreement. For the love of gawd I would hate to see what you people surround yourselves with for friends if you can't handle any conflict. Going back and forth with hard trash talking will, if you do it right and don't go all special snowflake, lead to enlightenment for one or both of you. It may be you find out new information to bolster your own perspective, or perhaps, as horrifying as this may be, you might actually change your mind instead of simply following the herd.

People don't get the intellectual property thing at all. I told Rollo Jr at an early age "Never.Steal.Aything. If you are tempted to download anything, or skip on a bill at a restaurant, or shoplift, you pay with your credit card or if that's too hard you call me and I will. You do not put yourself or this family at risk to save a nickel".
Told him a story of some middle class kids in the area who robbed ATMs so they could take their girlfriends out for fine dining, now they will enter the job market with felony theft on their records. Said, "You don't change your whole life over a freaking steak. We pay our bills, period."

Why? Because most people want a peaceful existence most likely. Your generation and the ones preceding them can take all the wars you fought over nothing and jam them where the sun don't shine!
I grew up on the tail end of the vietnam war (born tail end of January 1968), my dad served in it, both grandfathers served in WW2. My biggest fears growing up were being suddenly nuked out of existence (nearly happened a couple of times in my lifetime) and being forced to go fight some idiotic war somewhere.
WTF?
You live in Australia, I don't think most of the world remembers you guys are even there most of the time. You're so far from everywhere else that it's probably the safest place on the planet in a war.

Yes it's "pure and utter garbage" because it runs some games at 100p less than a PS4.
That 900p vs 1080p in some games is the deciding factor!

So how the fuck did you end up afraid of someone having hurt feelings? I seriously can't make the connection. At least with the millenials they are so pathetically weak because they never faced any adversity, I get that(obviously as a group- not individuals). You grew up during some fairly strong Cold War action, I would think someone saying something not nice wouldn't phase you.

You realize Australia would be second on our list of most devoted allies, and we are well aware of that. If anyone ever attacked you, we would have more planes in your airspace then you have planes in very short order(UK then Australia- and Sick, anyone attacked you it would be considered an attack on US soil but I think you know that).
And what enemies of the US would be attacking Australia? Your navy could take out China's without an issue- North Korea? Heh. Iran? You are quite safe from military invasion- as are we in North America for that matter.
Also, derogatory remarks blanketed against an entire nation(that's offensive using your standards)? Are you a complete hypocrite, or is their anything you stand for that you actually believe?
