The Vita's name meant failure. Not to mention the real way Sony has screwed its customers has always been on price gouging their flash memory.

We often buy Rollo Jr new games for the drive to vacation rentals we make 4-5 times a year. I don't care what the memory costs, just want new games.

It was a failed product.

Surely you are aware of the 5,000 other mobile devices in existence. I hope he doesnt suffer to bad.

You are old enough to know about Betamax. You should know then that Sony will drop support when a product is failing. Surely you were saying the exact same thing then as you are now. And here you are again.......

Dont you think sony lost enough money on the vita? Seems like you havent been paying attention. Most people know all about the struggling Vita and Sony's woes which go all the way back to launch.

Yes, he can play on one of the tablets or his G3, or a laptop if he's feeling nostalgic.

The Vita is one product of Sony's that I really like. Well built, powerful for what it is, nice controls, I think it is the best portable for gaming.

It is a very well built and impressive hand held. But sometimes, that just isnt enough.

Sony put a real effort behind the device. Maybe there could have been better ways to spend that energy but its not like they intended on it flopping.
As a matter of fact, Sony tried to hide its failure on this device. Still though, it wasnt a secret.

Lack of games for the US audience = lack of effort.  There were so many more Japanese games that never hit the US market. 

I was intrigued by the multi-touch feature on the back of the PS Vita, but it's amazing how most games hardly ever use special features of a controller to enhance the controls.  If Nintendo didn't force devs to use the Wiimote as intended, most games would just have the player holding it sideways with both hands, and use it as an ordinary controller (as actually is the case with games like Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, etc). PS3's SixAxis feature was almost never used in games- when I first heard of it, I thought it was so awesome for kids who loved to move their controllers to the left or right, thinking that it would do anything.

Dying Light looks so AWESOME - certainly, the controls could've been that much more intuitive using something like a wiimote or PS move, or Kinect.  See the running videos on Steam:

If Microsoft ever dropped support for a gaming device after a scant four years on the market- dropping all game development support it would leave such a stain on the industry they would have no choice but to refer to is as... well.... the XBox.

Sony fucked up *HUGE* by not having the Vita have a full Android OS and support for the games built in. Would have made it exponentially more appealing to a major segment of the population, they still could have pimped their first and third party platform exclusives along with giving third parties an out to open up additional revenue streams down the road once a relevant period had expired(say four years or whatever).

They really wouldn't have had any downside to this approach, hell the hardware *SCREAMS* Android gaming device.

Also- Sony's outrageously expensive flash memory is bad enough, how fucking slow it is makes it a not amusing pathetic joke. Another small gripe- why did they drop the sweet ass OLED screen for some piece of shit LCD- meh.

Without a doubt the best one, I also have the Playstation TV that plays all of the Vita games- Shield console absolutely roflstomps that into the ground in everything.

The biggest problem with the Vita is its', at best, pathetic library. Yes, as a *serious* games machine I would take my phone over a Vita without hesitation. There just simply isn't enough worth playing on it. This was entirely due to Sony's absurd NIH syndrome.

$40-50 per game for the Vita - maybe just Uncharted is better than what we can get on Android for free, or for $1.... Vita's few dozen games vs Android's 10,000 games...

R.I.P. Sony Vita!!! My friend called dibs on that one on the launch day of the Vita, beating me to the punch, though!

Phones don't have decent controllers, Vita does.

Shield isn't truly portable, Vita is. By this I mean the Shield is a large, cumbersome device comparatively. Vita can be pocketed, you need a man purse or back pack to tote a Shield. (unless you want people to point and laugh as you carry around a Xbox controller looking toy.

I get that Shield is superior, but it's not a pocket console like Vita or 3DS.

Some rumors are pointing at a Nintendo NX being a hybrid console/handheld (like the Wii U handheld), but uses Android and is just handheld alone (no discs or console machine sitting next to the TV). I doubt that it would be any more of a success than the 3DS though.

I just wish that my Wii U's controller were able to display with the same glasses-free 3D interface as the new 3DS, at 1080p rather than 640x480 resolution. And that the Wii U had much more powerful hardware like the PS4. The gfx of the Batman AO game on the Wii U actually looks WORSE than on Xbox360 - it's strange as the GPU was supposed to be about 2.5-3x as powerful.

Nintendo is likely going to launch NX exactly 1 year from now. I doubt that it will be as big of a hit as the Wii.... these companies are following an outdated business model in the video gaming industry.
