The whole point in originally bringing this redirect issue up was in the special case that people who used to visit the ABT would end up on the old and broke forum. They wouldnt know the site was fixed and would just go somewhere else.
The site had crashed but had many visitors. Most people arent going to spend any time searching around a site they think is broken. This is why i suggested Dave make the redierct to the main page when people try to visit the ABTs old forum. So that lurkers and such of the ABT wasnt just turned away cause they thought the site was broken.
My url history isnt unusual or unique. Most people who visited the ABT before the transition will have a similar experience, they will be redirected to the old 2009 name the mascot article. Such an old article, they may not know the ABT is back up and running.
It is actually no big deal to me. I am not complaining at all and i am not asking Dave to fix anything for me. I am not asking for help for clearing my browser cache or address history. This is a continuation......feedback to the suggestion of a redirect for visitors of the old ABT because it may not be clear the site was back up and online.
You must remember that the ABT had a respectable amount of traffic. There were many visitors. Hundreds of times the amount of active posters. When the site went down, it really hurts traffic. I would bet the amount of visitors is still much smaller than it was before the site went down. There was a large amount of daily visitors that never posted. So, if they get redirected to a 2009 article they probably would not waste another second.
It could be the damage is all done and none of these visitors are ever coming back. But, i just think it makes sense to make the site more accessible and catered to them rather than expect them to clear the URL history or poke around a site that is popping up a 2009 article on the main page.
The issue has never been mine. It was just a concern. I know how to use my browser and have zero issues with the redirect. I just think it potentially can run off people who used to visit the site and dont know its back up and running.
But just having the redirect instead of going directly to the old broken forum is a great improvement. I was just giving feedback now to how that redirect is working.
