AMD/ATi have been competing for the top spot in PC graphics for a very long time now, since before nVidia was even around actually. /

'What?, ATi was never a 3D gamers card until AFTER NV entered the market, they did TV and 2D only! 3DFX started 3D with glide/DX and it was only after NV bought out ATi that they started with 3D to any end...
the driver issues was always there. I was helpdesk when ATi had the worst drivers on NT4 (well, so did Intel with i740 also), however I have no idea where you get the idea ATi ever 3D before NV or 3DFX

You know, if you're going to try to correct someone you really should have your facts straight. ATi released the 3D Rage graphics card in 1996. Yes, it did have 3D capabilities. nVidia did not release their Riva 128 until 1997, a year later.

Also, nVidia never "bought out" ATi.
