I wouldn't have ultimately banned Gstanford if I were an admin, even though I did temporarily ban him for just a few hours (which would've been unnecessary if I had the authority that Poppin had, to delete excessively slandering personal attacks filled with profanity, just like on any other tech forums, and to keep threads cleaner than mens restroom in the back of a redneck gas station.
SteelCrysis is an awesome contributor. Rather uncommonly, his OP's might appear to be misleading or "trolling" in the eyes of those who like Steam/Valve, etc, but it does not make sense to outright ban SteelCrysis just because of a couple of such thread topics that are disagreed upon. A forum will never grow more than ABT ever did in the past 6+ years, if members like SteelCrysis (with a few strong likes/dislikes towards certain tech companies) are banned left and right.
Rollo is awesome as well. If posts got far too "ad hominem" or filled with personal attacks, they could've easily been moderated, but as far as I have seen, it always took two to tango. One tiny little light insult (meant to be taken lightly) from Rollo was often escalated to another level, magnified, and responded to with passive-aggressive "don't-fucking-bully-me" bully attitude that turned the discussion into a personal fist-fight. Gstanford (although a bigot who cannot stop holding his middle finger up at the end of every post he makes, with such signature reeking of extreme bigotry) interestingly has no problem with debating with Rollo at large, while certain others just cannot keep their knives holstered when arguing with Rollo.
A forum really needs to grow big first - it needs to really GROW for a LONG time before we should even think of banning decent members left and right. I just wish that Poppin let me be an admin (while I ensured that he was only a moderator to purge the spammers), so that I could keep his passive-aggressive reactions from keeping it (the active member count) mowed down, from ever growing into a tree as intended.
But most likely, BTR will not learn from many accidents on the road - the car keeps on getting dented and banged, and cannot ever really go far. A new car (BTR) with the same driver does not mean it will go far either, if the same driving style continues. I should be the forum admin over at BTR, but of course, I'm pissed that ABT got ditched in an accident like this, and also I do not think Poppin trusts me enough or wants me to have any moderation over his own actions. I don't really think it's worth my time anyway, plus Gstanford would leave anyway because he thinks I'd just traumatize him (or because he is so dogmatically atheist that seeing one post in opposition to his anti-religious slur literally burns his skin).
Anyway.. maybe ABT will be back someday...
just a bit of repair, with a driver ready to charge ahead without power-tripping into excessive road rage ... a free-for-all site of enthusiast-oriented product reviews, and a forum of free speech (and of course tolerance and light moderation keeping the shit from hitting the fan while keeping the fan blades from cutting anybody's head off at the same time, except for the spambots)!!
