Interesting - GTX 1080 (GP104) will indeed sport GDDR5X clocked at "12000MHz effective".. (if people still use "effective" clocks like 7000MHz for GTX 980).

Whew, GDDR5X just in time to the rescue for Pascal GP104!
***Edit - take that with a grain of salt???
People are thinking that it's not feasible for Nvidia to do that with GTX 1080, and then use ordinary GDDR5 with cut-down GTX 1070, but ATI did it before with HD 4870 (GDDR5) and HD 4850 (GDDR3), no problem. Another thing is that some are saying that GDDR5X is still being sampled and not yet ready for mass retail.
