Interesting.
After seeing broadwell E, I think I will end up going skylake 6700 or something. I just wasn't impressed at all like I thought I would be
You know, the first review and benchmarks were so disappointing that I haven't looked at anymore. I used to spend days going over numbers across so many sites and apps.
It's kind of a drag these days.
Even a skylake build isn't exciting me. I for sure put it off, at least till after we go on vacation later this summer. Got nearly a dozen projects that I am inching thru around the house.
The skylake laptops I have are serving me fine for the studio. Still got the ancient 6 core xeon which brute forces it's way thru every game so far without issue at 4.2ghz - 4.4turbo.
Even the gtx 980 I have had for years now, it's been a great investment. People spin and spun the 980 as this bad buy, it is totally unfounded. I had fury class performance for about the same price, about 1 year before fury cam out. My 980 was running over clocked 1450mhz 100% flawless for all this time. This worked across all games and I could even push it further but since my son is the sole gamer these days, I just wanted stable and flawless with good Temps without sounding like a hair dryer.
Anyhow, the 980ti came out and it barely changed the value of the 980. The used value was still very high last time I checked a few months ago. Like, so high that you get back the majority of the money back after using it for years. 80% of its value is extremely good after using a product that long. How is that for aging? It flies in the face for aMD stupid troopers who say over and over how Nvidia cards degrade so much over time. Any and card bought at the same time I bought the 980, you couldn't get 1/2 your money back. Like 1/3rd if you are lucky.
Anyhow, the 980 is still fine considering the gsync monitor is 1080p. I think that I am done upgrading the xeon x58 from now on. The next pc will be ground up build. But, as long as it's hanging in there fine and my son is happy....I am in no hurry.
Consider that he is 8yr old...he's dinosaur pc is impressive to all his friends
