My WD Black finally went out. I just picked up a seagate 2tb from bestbuy.
It is crazy now, the same drive on Newegg is no cheaper than at bestbuy in store.
Newegg just isnt what it used to be.
I guess i thought about getting a huge SSD. Mechanical drives just do not last these days. I went through so many since the floods. Even the WD blacks, they just dont last. I just picked up this seagate to be up and running when gta5 launched. My 256gb SSD just wasnt gonna cut it. My WD black was throwing SMART errors/alarms, it wouldnt pass the long or short test. Luckily I had all my data backed up after a blue screen code pointed me towards the failing HD.
I still ran it another 5 months before it went completely out. It was my windows 7 drive. My main OS.
Now i am Win8.1 all the way
Anyway, I went with the seagate and i am sure it will fail in a year or two. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-driv...mber-2014/
should have went with Hitachi

I've posted links before about how bad the Backblaze report is. I'd be more willing to trust Puget Systems' reports: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articl...-2014-616/
They say go for a WD Red or Blue.

I remember the one you posted.
That was an updated report
Why arent you trusting of backblaze?
I think they are being legit. Environments play a factor, its all in how you abuse them
holy crap Steel, i just read your link and my jaw dropped when i seen this,
Quote:This list may look very NVIDIA heavy, and part of it is that we simply sell more NVIDIA cards than AMD cards so there are more NVIDIA models that we have sold enough of to be confident in our data. On the other hand, NVIDIA GeForce cards on a whole have proven to be much more reliable than AMD Radeon cards in recent years. In fact, in 2014 NVIDIA GeForce cards only had an overall failure rate of 2.34% (down from 3.3% last year) versus AMD Radeon cards which had an overall failure rate of 17.9% (up from 10% last year).
WOW
Remember when Origins decided to stop using AMD GPUs and the fit that was thrown all over the internet. People were claiming that Nvidia paid Origin to stop using AMD GPUs and that the claim that AMD GPUs have a higher failure rate was just made up.
I think there was data back then suggesting AMD gpus had over 150% the failure rate as nvidia GPUs.......
Surely i can find something from back then.....
ah, here we go
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2052184/w...ards-.html
man, read that article. AMD fans can really stir up some crap. But look near the bottom. We have Puget.
And in 2013, there was an increase in AMD failure rate, from about 1.5x nvidias to about 2x. And from then on things got tremendously worse. For Puget, AMD GPUs have almost 8 times the failure rate of Nvidia GPUs. (7.65x)
that is shocking. totally and completely shocking.
But the crazy thing is, we seen videos of gtx570s blowing up and the claim that nvidia kills cards with their drivers. We see real effort against nvidia GPUs and real news like this, like puget data showing AMD GPUs having 8x the failure rate.............this is the first time i have ever seen it.
And this is something i would think would be important to know, especially with how much AMD GPU promoting goes on on these forums. It is completely shocking. No wonder nvidia started taking market share in chucks even before Maxwell. This probably plays a huge factor in the real world, where most of these forum campers dont spend any time

So small for a 4K monitor..
There's a 32" IPS Gsync monitor that just came out last month, from Acer:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6824009893
32" seems to be a wonderful size for the desktop (some might think it's a bit too big), but it could always be pushed back to the far end of the desktop (if the desktop is big enough). Hopefully Windows 10 will continue to have better support for 4K scaling with the font, icons, windows.. something that Android and iOS got ahead in some ways when it comes to auto-dynamic or manual scaling over a plethora of different resolutions.
I wish it could've been curved, though, like LG's 34" ultra-wide 3440x1440 screen.
With those curved, having 3 of those side-by-side could look much more natural for surround (if the size/distance ratio is ideal).
