He does make good arguments, though no one will listen to him. I won't go all the way to agree with him as I don't think we're in that bad a situation yet.
My own observations are: - The Constitution is not a sacred cow. I partially agree with Thomas Jefferson's interpretation of the Constitution that it is not too sacred to be touched, but disagree with his mandatory ending of the Constitution every 19 years.
- There is a precedent to repealing an amendment from the Constitution. It was called Prohibition, instituted by the 18th Amendment and repealed by the 21st Amendment. That right there is a powerful precedent that could throw the First Amendment out the window if the time comes.

No, he doesn't, not even a little bit. Critical thinking solves that problem and a ton of others.

Try to repeal the first and millions will die from the ensuing war. If you are going to bring up changes to the Constitution btw, *ALWAYS* use the 13th, by *FAR* the best example of us fixing what the founding fathers horribly fucked up.

Did you even bother to read the list the instances where freedom of speech was restricted in this country and the sky didn't fall? If you actually think repealing the 1st Amendment and replacing it with something else will automatically result in civil war, TomCruiseLaughing.gif If you think the 13th Amendment actually repealed anything in the Constitution rather than prohibited slavery, TomCruiseLaughing.gif

Apparently the TomCruiseLaughing.gif is not working after I cleaned up the smiley directory. Checking now.

There was no technical problem. I know how to use that gif, I was just using the name for it. I try to use the Tom Cruise Laughing gif itself sparingly.

Like during the McCarthy trials? Japanese interment camps in the 1940s?
What I find amusing is the hypocrisy Slate has for coming out against a "radicalization echo chamber" when they have fought for the last couple of years to make exactly that for their own political jumpings.

You have *no fucking clue* if you don't understand that is without question. Every right wing *AND* left wing nut job in the country would go to war over that. There are already police departments that have warned the federal government that they will fire on them if they try to enforce *SIGNIFICANTLY* less severe measures. You may live in a nice little bubble, go ahead to the rural areas of the red states and ask all of those extremely well armed people what they would do.
There is *NO* chance you would ever see 66% vote support on that measure, the only way you would pull it off is under martial law.

You stated that the constitution was not a sacred cow. Prohibition was added and then repealed over a very short period of time. Ending slavery was a fundamental change in human rights. You seriously come across as middle school in terms of your understanding of even the most basic sociology elements. I would just brush you off but shockingly ignorant voters- which you should be the poster child for- had fucked this world up so much someone has to do something to get them reading.

How the hell do those involve free speech? It's clear that you didn't read the article. So let me spell it out for you: American Civil War, WWI, WWII, freedom of speech restricted in all of those in multiple nations, sky did not fall.

Really? The left-wing cares more about freedom of speech than the right. They obsess over it. BTW, if those police departments actually fire on federal marshals under Obama's administration, he'll just do nothing in the long term. If those police departments actually fire on federal marshals under any administration other than Obama's, there will be a repeat of Waco. Let me remind you that insurrections against the federal government are 0 for 4 (Whiskey Rebellion, Shay's Rebellion, American Civil War, Waco).

Way to ignore the fact that the 13th Amendment did not repeal jack shit.

Educate yourself. You do impress me regularly with your ability to prove you are far more ignorant than I could have possibly imagined.
Quote:It's clear that you didn't read the article.
The article that sourced Wikipedia. I read the article, it's poorly written, terribly researched, embarrassingly sourced and factually inaccurate. I wouldn't even grade this as a paper, I'd tell the student to start over and pull his head out of his half witted ass.

If you ever learn how to read something real outside of fucking Salon and Wikipedia, look into the implications the 13th had on our governmental structure and how it fundamentally altered the 10th amendments' ability to keep the Union as a loose collection of states and turned it into the more modern republic based governance that we evolved into. For the record- I never stated that the 13th repealed a prior amendment, I figured anyone with an IQ over 80 would have been able to figure that out, I keep aiming outside of your comprehension range, my apologies. The point was that the constitution could be changed in fundamental ways- the 21st just repealed the 18th. The First is kind of a big fucking deal, that's why it was the First. When talking about modifying *THE* core of what this nation was founded on, bringing up a few year idiot bubble doesn't have quite the same impact as ending slavery *WHILE* restructuring power.
Quote:The left-wing cares more about freedom of speech than the right.
Only certain sectors of it. Social Justice Warriors have been waging a war on line for a couple of years now trying to stamp out free speech, and they fancy themselves as left wing.

Koresh and 50 people is just like the millions those marshalls will be squaring off against? I'll tell you from first hand experience a *large* percentage of the military would be on the people's side fighting against another one of your tyrannical schemes

The Civil War was won by the aggressor- and that was the only one that qualifies out of your list.

Wow, this quote requires multiple uses of the Tom Cruise gif.

That's just your shitty opinion.

An amendment to the Constitution got obliterated by another amendment, and you don't consider that a fundamental change?!

More like the vast majority of the left.

The federal government was able to deploy 4 M728 CEVs, 10 M2 Bradleys, and 2 fucking M1 Abrams MBTs for Waco. That was just an infinitesimal fraction of the military's firepower. If those police departments do decide to wage insurrection, they'll get even more. The military is amoral and apolitical. They will do what they are told: it's what they're trained to do. Especially if the First Amendment is wiped out by a perfectly legal process of repealing.

Who fucking fired on Fort Sumter, knowing that there would be no resistance if the incoming resupply barges were not fired upon?
