Oh man. Does that mean that they are going to make HDMI 3.0?
03-03-2016, 10:25 AM
Yep... but not for a while - the panel of directors behind HDMI likes to take things slow..
I actually would love for HDMI 3.0 to come out ASAP, allowing for 4K @ 120+Hz.. 4K sure is nice, but 60Hz is a thing of the past. A universal standard of Freesync (like Gsync) should be ubiquitous - especially with the efficiency of only updating a frame with a new one, without wasted intervals of distorted screen tearing.

I'd love for there to be movies and tv delivered by my cable company to be 4K and TVs to be true 120Hz panels.

WHat is the difference between DP 1.4 and eDP 1.4?
I noticed my gtx960 G1 has support for eDP 1.4 in the Guru 3d review. quote: "The card has six (!) display connectors, you'll spot three Display Port connectors, one HDMI 2.0 connector and two DVI connectors. HDMI is 2.0 compatible meaning that compatible monitors and tellys can do UHD at 60 Hz, DP is 1.2 but has support for eDP 1.4. Due to the use of this many connector, there is no exhaust though, meaning all residual heat will be dumped inside the chassis. " http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gig...iew,3.html

Wow guys look who came out of the woodwork! It's happy medium! Long time no see man! How are things?
I just did a quick search and it looks to me as though your card will support the new DisplayPort 1.4. YMMV though, I don't know this for sure.

Quote:Replacing eDP v1.4, published in February 2013, eDP 1.4a enables a higher video data transfer rate for increased panel resolution, greater color depth and higher refresh rates.http://www.vesa.org/news/vesa-publishes-...sion-1-4a/ Quote:The eDP v1.4a standard leverages the VESA DisplayPort (DP) Standard v1.3, published in September 2014, as a base specification. That standard’s new higher HBR3 link rate, which operates at 8.1 Gbps per lane, is now also part of eDP v1.4a. At least yours still supports PSR: Quote:eDP 1.4a also includes refinements to the partial update capability for Panel Self Refresh (PSR) that was introduced in eDP 1.4. Partial update enables the system video processor, or GPU, to update only the portion of the display that has changed since the video frame update, further saving system power.

That's what it gets to be (if you're lucky) in middle age. Very routine, no surprises. Good to see you again, the ranks of forum posters isn't exactly growing. Used to everyone posted on tech forums, now its all social media.

I have kids though so they keep me pretty busy. I have been enjoying the family life. I went out for a good run today. Right now I'm stability testing and overclocking my new motherboard. So far things are going really well. I hit a couple of snags but now everything seems to be sorted out and working beautifully. For some strange reason I could not run my 280x in PCI-E 3.0 mode. It was causing horrible sound issues over HDMI. Once I set it back to 2.0 in the BIOS it solved the problem. I'm a bit annoyed that PCI-E 3.0 is not working but I know it won't make a difference in my games. Other than that everything went really well. I have decided that I will be going with Gigabyte from now on for all my builds. I'm very impressed by the quality of the board. It's really outstanding. |
