Would it be a "bad" thing if Gigabyte, Asus, and MSI were the last motherboard makers? I can't remember the last time I purchased anything other than those three.

It's only rough in that it is saturated with PCs that can do everything pretty well. Game at 1080p, run office apps fast, etc..

When you combine that with the fact we're using phones, consoles, and tablets for a lot of stuff we used to use PCs for, the PC hardware market is in decline.

If software doesn't create need higher end pcs it will stay rough. Consoles are considered "good enough" for gaming, tablets good enough for office.
