Windows 10 downloads slow down the entire internet
[url=http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/software/1403670/windows-10-downloads-to-slow-down-the-entire-internet?]
The rush to download Windows 10 will create "easily the largest day/week of traffic ever on the internet", according to an industry expert. Windows 10 is available for download today, with millions of machines all set to automatically or manually download the 3GB file, which is a free upgrade for users of Windows 7 and 8.1.

Windows 10 traffic is "already massive", despite only going live at 5am BST, "with traffic over 10TB/sec."

Windows 10 uses your upload bandwidth to distribute patches to others

8-1-2015

"Windows Update Delivery Optimization" is an on-by-default setting in Windows 10 (home) that uses YOUR upload channel to speed up patch distribution to other people. It is essentially bittorrent in a wrapper.

Microsoft have said the upload uses a "limited portion" of idle upload bandwidth however it is unclear how they know in advance what your upload bandwidth actually is. My upload bandwidth (for example) is a paltry 1 megabit. Perhaps they have incorporated some kind of testing in order to not only take less than that, but also relinquish it when it is used for other purposes? or perhaps they thought most people won't notice.

To disable this feature, or read about it, click here for the appropriate Microsoft FAQ.

It's hilarious that people don't mind uploading as part of torrenting, but the moment Microsoft implements similar functionality, people whine about it.

M$ has more than enough resources to do their own distribution without leaching the resources of others to distribute. Which is the exact opposite situation of most torrenters.
