GTX285 vs GTX260+ vs 4850 Performance Test

OpenGL (16xS)

And now for the grand finale: fourteen classic OpenGL games. These gems absolutely fly at 16xS when using my top resolution of 1920×1440. That includes Quake 2, a source port like Quake featuring enhanced graphics and high resolution textures, though it’s nowhere near as demanding as the former.

Incidentally, ten out of the fourteen games use Carmack’s engines.

Records are broken yet again, with the 285 racking up a 30.77% performance advantage overall, the highest of any benchmark set shown today. There’s no denying that these classic titles have benefitted the most in terms of performance percentage, and a substantial chunk of them are showing gains in the mid to late thirties. In fact the biggest performance gain from any game today (38.11%) comes from the original Soldier of Fortune, a game released in 2000 using a modified Quake 2 engine.

Who said old games can’t be used to test new hardware?
