They didn&#8217;t have long to wait as AMD delivered in spades. In January the HD 5670 came and brought with it amazing performance that has become a new standard for the $100 price point.<\/p>\n<p>Next up on ATI\u2019s release calendar was to be the <strong>Radeon HD 5450<\/strong> which I <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=15162\" target=\"_blank\">previewed<\/a> last week. This week the <em>Red Team<\/em> has let another cat out of the proverbial bag by bringing a cost- and power-efficient gaming card for $80. It is known as the <strong>Radeon HD 5570<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>DirectX 11 has now truly come to the masses and I\u2019m sure you are eager to find out how much performance you can get for such a small cost.<\/p>\n<p><!--pagetitle:Introduction--><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle:HD 5450 - Specifications &#038; Architecture--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Radeon HD 5450<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The HD 5450 is a low-profile, low-power card will retail for roughly $50. This 6.4W idle, 19.1W load GPU will be available in 512MB and 1GB versions. The memory types will be either GDDR2 or GDDR3 variants. I think it would be a great option for a Home Theatre Personal Computer (HTPC). Now for a look at its bigger brother, the HD 5570.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle:HD 5570 - Specifications &#038; Architecture--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Radeon HD 5570<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Radeon HD 5570 is the video card that I found surprising. Instead of having specs similar to the HD 5450, it has a striking likeness to the HD 5670 which is also based on the <em>Redwood<\/em> GPU.\u00a0The memory is the only thing that separates them with the difference being GDDR3 versus GDDR5. The default clock speeds are 650MHz on the core clock and a memory clock of 900MHz. These speeds combined with its 627 million transistors, make this 40nm process GPU have a maximum of 520 GigaFLOPs of computing power.<\/p>\n<p>Although the <em>Redwood<\/em> GPU is designed with performance-per-watt in mind, it is also more tailored towards gaming on a budget. We all want to know that when we sink our hard-earned money into our hardware, it won\u2019t fail due to overheating caused by inadequate cooling solutions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geeks3d.com\/20100202\/furmark-1-8-0-hot-like-hell-edition-available\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.geeks3d.com\/20100202\/furmark-1-8-0-hot-like-hell-edition-available\/', 'FurMark 1.8.0']);\" target=\"_blank\">FurMark 1.8.0<\/a> \u2013 the new Hot Like Hell Edition \u2013 was used to load the GPU for 10 minutes and the peak temperature recorded. The HD 5450 had a peak temperature of 63\u00b0C, while the HD 5570 crept up to a high of 71\u00b0C. The HD 5450 had an 18 degree increase while the more powerful HD 5570 got 29 degrees hotter than when idling.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Noise<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Owing to the lack of a decibel meter, I had to play it by ear on this one. This was done at an approximate distance of three feet away with the chassis closed. I was pleased to find that while both of these reference cards were actively cooled, neither could be heard when GPU was under load. By default when the GPU is loaded and putting out more heat, the fans spin up to offer more cooling to the cards\u2019 components.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle:Power Usage--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Power Usage<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Power usage is becoming increasingly important in this <em>green<\/em> age. Under full GPU load, this figure increased to 281W. Genuine low-power cards are a welcome addition to the 5000-Series line-up but the performance is what will truly determine their value.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle:3DMark 06--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3DMark 06<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>3DMark06 is a PC benchmark suite designed to test the DirectX9 performance of your graphics card. 3DMark06 is the most downloaded benchmark and the ORB database of 3DMark 06 results, maintained by Futuremark, now contains over 8.5 million 3DMark06 benchmark scores from around the world. Three main graphic tests from 3DMark05 were carried over to 3DMark06 and updated. It is the latest addition to the 3DMark series. As it is a DX10-only benchmark, it only runs on Windows Vista and Windows 7. 3DMark Vantage is composed of four full-bore benchmarking tests (2 CPU tests and 2 GPU tests) and 6 feature tests. Even with the visual settings and the resolution turned down, <em>Crysis <\/em>can usually make a mainstream system beg you for an upgrade. The HD 5450 varied from slideshow to marginally playable at these settings while the poor 8500GT offered some still shots.<\/p>\n<p>The HD 5570 was easily playable and smooth enough to enjoy the game without much slowdowns. We sure have come a long way in graphics. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military &#8220;Fairway&#8221; operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <em>S.T.A.L.K.E.R.<\/em> (just simply called <em>STALKER<\/em>) series has made quite an impact on PC gaming with its Action-RPG, FPS hybrid style gameplay.
