Certainly a hotter running part will not last as long as a cooler running part.\u00a0 Since then, my notebook has been running very warm and I jumped at the chance to review a notebook cooler.<\/p>\n<p>Enter Cooler Master\u2019s NotePal ErgoStand Notebook cooler.\u00a0 Using a large 140mm variable-speed fan, Cooler Master\u2019s ErgoStand promises to keep your notebook running cooler while still being quiet. It also securely holds your 9\u201d netbook to widescreen 17\u201d notebook at a choice of five angles and it also offers some extra USB connectivity.\u00a0 It manages all of this with flair and with good practical features.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/stand-jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-BOTTOM-WIDTH: 0px; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 0px\" title=\"standWnotebook\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/standwnotebook_thumb-jpg.jpg?resize=210%2C204\" border=\"0\" alt=\"standWnotebook\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Notebooks Run Hot<\/h3>\n<p>We have appreciated Cooler Master\u2019s dedication to excellent and well-priced PC cooling solutions in everything that we have reviewed by them.\u00a0 If cooling is important for desktop PCs, then\u00a0it is\u00a0critical for notebook\/laptops, tablets, and netbooks.\u00a0\u00a0 These small PCs often lack room for cooling their components and they also use small fans which are easily clogged with dust.\u00a0 It is not unusual for many notebooks to run in the 80s C but often they run much hotter.\u00a0 I was shocked to see high 90sC when I ran thermal tests with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alcpu.com\/CoreTemp\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.alcpu.com\/CoreTemp\/', 'CoreTemp']);\" >CoreTemp<\/a> and CPUID\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpuid.com\/hwmonitor.php\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.cpuid.com\/hwmonitor.php', 'Hardware Monitor']);\" >Hardware Monitor<\/a> in preparation for this review.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16157\" title=\"hot\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG?resize=400%2C488\" alt=\"hot\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG?resize=400%2C488 500w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ouch!\u00a0\u00a0100+ degrees C\u00a0for the CPU is very hot and the GeForce 8200 M is also hitting\u00a0nearly 100 degrees\u00a0C !!\u00a0 Clearly we shall be looking for a remedy &#8211; or a new notebook.\u00a0 So, let\u2019s put Cooler Master\u2019s ErgoStand through its paces and see if we can save our hot-running Compaq from a premature death due to constant overheating.\u00a0 First, let us look closely at the ErgoStand.<\/p>\n<p><!--pagetitle: Introduction--><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3>The Packing &amp; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"Adjustable\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/adjustable_thumb-jpg.jpg?resize=244%2C219\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Adjustable\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Besides a short manual included with the ErgoStand is a USB cable and two rubber holders which secure your notebook to the stand even when it is tilted as in the maximum position <em>(above).<\/em> ErgoStand is flexible enough to allow you to work as you wish.\u00a0 I expect you could even lay in bed with the stand on a breakfast tray and work away easily.\u00a0 The option for such a high tilt would also allow for a user to use a second full-sized keyboard comfortably or to use the Ergostand with a tablet PC.\u00a0 Hence the name <em>Ergo<\/em>Stand, from ergonomics.\u00a0 It not only implies comfort and increased productivity but delivers on its promise.\u00a0 This editor found himself less fatigued typing by using the ErgoStand in the first tilted position over typing on a flat surface or in the stand\u2019s default (6.5 degrees above horizontal) position.<\/p>\n<p><!--pagetitle: Packing &#038; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"looksgood\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/looksgood_thumb-jpg.jpg?resize=244%2C174\" border=\"0\" alt=\"looksgood\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now that we have seen how\u00a0the ErgoStand\u00a0works and looks, we turn to the most important part of a notebook cooler \u2013 its ability to cool.<\/p>\n<p><!--pagetitle: More Features--><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3>The Test and Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>We have already seen shockingly high temperatures on this editor\u2019s notebook peak\u00a0over 100 degrees C with the notebook sitting on a table in a warm (75F) room.\u00a0 These high temperatures were caused just by running \u201cnormal\u201d activities such as, game playing, photo\/video editing, and web surfing.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we reset the HW Monitor and place our notebook on the NotePal ErgoStand with its fan at maximum,\u00a0 and we continue on with the same type of activities as before \u2013 for hours more.\u00a0 We will then report to you what the notebooks&#8217;s maximum temperatures are with it on the ErgoStand compared to the extreme internal temperatures without the stand cooling it.<\/p>\n<p>The Notebook used all throughout this testing is my same Compaq CQ60-210US with a 2.0 GHz Athlon X2\/GeForce 8200M combination.\u00a0 Here are the results.\u00a0\u00a0First, here\u00a0are the notebook&#8217;s internal temperatures\u00a0without the ErgoStand\u00a0cooler:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16157\" title=\"hot\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG?resize=500%2C610\" alt=\"hot\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot.JPG?resize=500%2C610 500w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/hot-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>Now with the same notebook running the same applications being cooled on the ErgoStand (at maximum R.P.M.s):<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16160\" title=\"Cooler\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/cooler.JPG?resize=500%2C627\" alt=\"Cooler\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/cooler.JPG?resize=500%2C627 500w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Cooler-239x300.jpg 239w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>To\u00a0my joy, we see that the\u00a0CPU and GPU are now\u00a0around ten degrees C cooler with only the assembly temperatures unchanged.\u00a0By this simple test, I am sold and\u00a0Cooler Master&#8217;s NotePal ErgoStand is now part of my life.\u00a0 I rest much easier knowing that my notebook will probably last a lot longer with this cooler than without it.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Pros<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Cooler Master\u2019s NotePal ErgoStand is a product that does exactly what it promises:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1) It makes typing on your notebook\/netbook easier on your wrists and eyes by providing 5 levels of adjustability<\/p>\n<p>2) The ErgoStand provides good cable management and 3 additional USB ports<\/p>\n<p>3) It provides nearly silent adjustable cooling to keep your notebook\/netbook running cooler and likely lasting longer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><strong>Cons:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<blockquote><p>None<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cooler Master\u2019s NotePal ErgoStand is deserving of at least two awards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/ec-jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px;
