Have you even bothered to look?\u201d<\/em> <strong>\u2013 Andromeda\/Alexa Davalos \u2013 Clash of the Titans, 2010 (Warner Bros)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Maybe people like Jobs and Schmidt aren\u2019t omnipotent gods, but don\u2019t tick them off.<\/p>\n<p>Adobe insulted Steve back in \u201996 when they helped Gates first and wouldn\u2019t do a special version of software for the lowly Mac.<\/p>\n<p>Now Jobs looked down to the apps developers and said, <em>\u201cThey need to be reminded of the order of things\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> BAM!!! <\/em><\/strong> he eliminated Flash from their iPhone connection and wouldn\u2019t let it on his tablet.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, he gave a good reason\u2026their stuff is buggy and crashes (a Mac crashes???\u2026<strong><em>OMG!!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Titans can scuffle in the stratosphere, but when they get serious, it makes things miserable for mere mortals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jobs started his rise with an ad.<\/p>\n<div id=\"vzj9\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 364px; width: 275px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_371g6pqh23j_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>1984 &#8212; <\/strong> The Apple only paid once to play their Think Different ad on a Super Bowl Sunday years ago, but it appeared millions of times since and still lives in the virtual world of the Web.\u00a0\u00a0 The theme?\u00a0 Don\u2019t mindlessly follow the crowd\u2026hhmmm.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; Apple<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Told everyone to \u201c<strong><em>Think Different.<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For years, life for the Titans was good.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019d show us something new, hot, sexy\u2026we\u2019d emote over it and buy it.<\/p>\n<p>Each Titan had his\/her own turf.<\/p>\n<p>Things were so smooth, Steve invited Eric over for board meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Eric was making a ton of money selling cloud clicks, ads.<\/p>\n<p>Steve was making a ton selling things.<\/p>\n<p>First, he reinvented the MP3 player, called it an iPod, added a store.\u00a0 Sold millions of players\u2026sold a gazillion songs\u2026took out the RIAA.<\/p>\n<p>Then, he reinvented the phone with all the trimmings.<\/p>\n<p>He even allowed mortals to build apps he\u2019d sell for them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"c-nz\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 278px; width: 250px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_372w5pgqxck_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Beyond the Phone \u2013 <\/strong>Far from the first smartphone, Apple\u2019s iPhone refreshed the mundane phone call on-the-go experience, taking mobile communications, sharing, enjoyment to a new level.\u00a0 In less than two years, the new breed of smartphone has placed tremendous strain on service providers\u2019 ability to keep pace with consumer demands.\u00a0 Improvements \u2013 and changes \u2013 are in the wind, but it will require new payment plans.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There was an iPhone explosion \u2013 an estimated 50 million units sold, 200,000 apps available (100 flatulation, one Pulitzer prize \u00a0&#8211; finally &#8211; apps), six billion downloads.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a big chunk of profit for Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Schmidt took notes in the board meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Mobile kingdom Titans said kids were getting their mobile device earlier (9-1\/2 vs. 10 last year \u2013 <strong>Nielsen Mobile Insights<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Schmidt noticed they were sending an average of 100 text messages a day (<strong>Pew Research<\/strong>) \u2013 more clicks to count, more ads to slip in.<\/p>\n<p>Steve heard Eric had been poking around the Apple labs and had actually listened to some of his ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs was not pleased!<\/p>\n<div id=\"ggog\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 248px; width: 224px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_373cbc6pgwq_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Not a Happy Titan \u2013 <\/strong>If Schmidt had been content with racking up billions by tracking user clicks and selling ads, he might still be on the Apple Board.\u00a0\u00a0 But Google\u2019s decision to offer a smartphone, add Android apps stores and now help competitors introduce tablets, did not sit well with the Titan of One Infinity Circle\u2026not at all.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Schmidt figured it couldn\u2019t be too hard to make an iPhone knockoff and use Google\u2019s own OS.<\/p>\n<p>Android phones sell O.K., but the gPhone?<\/p>\n<p>As Solon said, <em>\u201cNot exactly confidence inspiring&#8230;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Steve needed another storefront profit center, so he decreed the redesign of the iPod Touch as something new, breathtaking\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Species<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An eBook\u2026MID (mobile internet device)\u2026pretty smartbook\u2026kinda\u2019 a tablet computer\u2026<\/p>\n<div id=\"tbn4\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 251px; width: 376px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_374dsm2kthd_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Bigger, Better Something \u2013 <\/strong>With his usual flair and amid a lot of serious doubt, Jobs introduced the overgrown iPod Touch (but totally different), the iPad.\u00a0 The Titan had expended a lot of energy telling you how easy it was to enjoy your content and other stuff on your iPhone, but this is even better.\u00a0 Millions agreed and touchscreen suppliers are hustling to improve production yields as other Titans rush their versions to market.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>TaDa<\/em><\/strong>\u2026<strong><em>Brilliant!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After more than a half million were sold in five days, 3500 (non-flash) apps were made available.<\/p>\n<p>The Titan still had his magic\u20263.5 million app downloads, 600,000 eBooks.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts believe Apple will sell one million iPads by June, more than five million by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>No one can really figure out where the sucker fits in the marketplace, but the \u201ccategory\u201d is gonna be <strong><em><span style=\"font-size: large;\">HUGE!!!!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"movf\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 334px; width: 447px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_375d3j7wdc2_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>New Category \u2013 <\/strong>A surprise to almost everyone \u2013 including Apple \u2013 the iPad filled a need people didn\u2019t even know they had for something beyond an eBook, mobile device, tablet PC and smartbook.\u00a0 No one seemed to notice that half the world doesn\u2019t have perfect vision and watching\/reading your content on an itty-bitty screen hasn\u2019t been fun.\u00a0 They know it now.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8212; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Many expect mortals will grab up 50 million of the touchscreen tablet units by 2014.<\/p>\n<p>As you would expect, Schmidt hustled the other Titans offering up his \u201copen\u201d OS solution.<\/p>\n<p>Titans like HP, Dell, Asus, Acer, Lenovo, others set their minions to work to produce the impossible\u2026a better iPad.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is waiting for the alternatives. Especially really \u201cirritated\u201d developers who spent a lot of time and effort developing all kinds of apps.<\/p>\n<p>They expected to stay the course\u2026use Flash conversion tools and sell in both the Windows and Apple environments.<\/p>\n<p>Oh sure, the interactive Flash program sits on almost every computer and gives life to most of the video, animation and games on the Web.<\/p>\n<p>But someone asked the Apple Titan how soon Flash would be on the iPhone and iPad the response was, <em>&#8220;Uh, no.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"f4d5\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div id=\"h26o\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 219px; width: 376px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_377hd82vtgf_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>China Syndrome \u2013 <\/strong>With Google not on China\u2019s \u201cbest friend\u201d list, Apple\u2019s iPad could see excellent sales there and around the globe.\u00a0\u00a0 All they have to do is solve a few \u201cminor\u201d supply chain problems like touchscreen production yields, keep the Apple ecosystem polished and beat off the alternatives.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8212; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to the rabid group of <strong><em>1984<\/em><\/strong> followers, Apple gained a new set of followers.<\/p>\n<p>China probably has the same opinion Jobs as it does of Google.<\/p>\n<p>Perseus, a Chinese convert, turned to Schmidt and said, <em>\u201cI&#8217;m not one of you! I&#8217;d rather die than stand alongside you!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jobs\u2019 reassured them saying, <em>&#8220;We&#8217;re making them as fast as we can. Our ramp is going well, but evidently we can&#8217;t quite make enough of them yet so we&#8217;re going to have to try harder,&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jobs wasn\u2019t through with Schmidt\u2026not by a long shot.<\/p>\n<p>His walled garden was becoming a sprawling self-contained ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.75in;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Computers, operating system, key apps<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.75in;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Music\/content players, storefront<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.75in;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Smartphones, operating system, app rules\/development kit, apps store<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.75in;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tablet device, operating system, app rules\/development kit, apps store<\/p>\n<p>Some developers say Apple is worried mortals may venture out to other app stores.\u00a0 Others say the closed environment will produce better apps, unique to the Apple environments (no more Adobe mistakes).<\/p>\n<p>While the Titans stomped, hollered and kick fluffy clouds around, mere mortals just go out and buy what the early adopters\/innovators say is hot, sexy, cool!!!<\/p>\n<p>This week, its Apple. \u00a0A month from now it may be \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Zeus whispered to Jobs, \u201c<em>Embrace your birthright.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jobs looked around the walled garden and found it needed\u2026its own ad platform.<\/p>\n<p>Of course\u2026<strong><em>iAd!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"v7ts\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 183px; width: 353px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_378zpk52kc7_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Eyeballs Anyone? \u2013 <\/strong>With millions of iPhone and iPod users already in place and the prospects of even more iPad users enjoying themselves in the Apple walled garden in the near future, there was no better time for Jobs to unveil the company\u2019s iAd program.\u00a0 If it takes a little out of Google\u2019s pockets\u2026so much the better.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Telling a Pulitzer winner where to go?\u00a0 Dumb<\/p>\n<p>Blowing off Flash?\u00a0 Questionable.<\/p>\n<p>Your own ad platform?\u00a0 Priceless!<\/p>\n<p>Gartner sees mobile advertising racking up about $1.6 billion this year and next year\u2026 iAd snaps revenue right out of Google\u2019s pockets<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freedom to Move<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019re moving toward 50 billion connections.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"tt43\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 210px; width: 648px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_379ctqpcmf2_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Aw, Come-on Titans \u2013 <\/strong>All of the Titans of the industry are developing end-to-end solutions for consumers to use, enjoy.\u00a0 Works beautifully as long as you stay inside their ecosystem.\u00a0 The problem is, people use a variety of devices, systems, applications from a variety of manufacturers.\u00a0 Moving from one walled garden to another isn\u2019t easy.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8212; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The problem is, no one lives with one device.\u00a0 You\u2019re lucky if you can get by with two\u2026or three.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve using a wide range of mobile, fixed system\/environments.<\/p>\n<p>Applications and data are \u2026everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Titans could care less how you quickly, easily, painlessly synchronize content from one device to another, one platform to another, one ecosystem to another.<\/p>\n<p>They aren\u2019t <strong><em>that<\/em><\/strong> benevolent!!!<\/p>\n<p>Hades counseled the Titans, <em>\u201cI have watched from the underworld&#8230; it is time for the mortals to pay!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"vh-u\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 249px; width: 587px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_380g2gvk9hq_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Warm Down Here \u2013 <\/strong>While the Titans fight up there, consumers down here pay the price of having to endure the pain and anguish of using their content when they want, where they want, how they want.\u00a0 Hardware, software, service, content providers all focus on the market \u2013 from their perspective \u2013 the rest is up to us.\u00a0 <strong>Image \u2013 Warner Bros<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not taking sides with either Google or Apple in this little tiff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Come-on Guys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All we want are things \u2013 hardware, software, services \u2013 that are adaptable and suitable for a specific task or set of tasks.<\/p>\n<p>When Schmidt presents his neat ideas to mobile service providers, IT managers, content delivery services, governments, you name it; he really acts like he has us right there!!!!<\/p>\n<div id=\"pj6q\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 311px; width: 214px;\" src=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/File?id=dfp9p5h9_381cwn6zghm_b\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Had \u2018em Right Here \u2013 <\/strong>Google\u2019s hold on everything Web has slipped a little recently.\u00a0 New ecosystems \u2013 like Apple\u2019s and Facebook\u2019s \u2013 have become increasingly popular, drawing consumers \u2013 and advertisers \u2013 to newcorners of the universe.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sure, Zeus, Perseus, Jobs have every right to strike back&#8211;and hard.\u00a0 But man, it\u2019s <strong><em>our <\/em><\/strong>stuff \u2013 content, data, communications, entertainment, information.<\/p>\n<p>Saying, <em>\u201chey, stay in the garden,\u201d<\/em> really isn\u2019t a logical solution to the dilemma.<\/p>\n<p>Before the next Super Bowl, we\u2019d like to see Steve watch the <strong><em>1984<\/em><\/strong> ad again\u2026very closely.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s almost getting to the point that Hades is right about both of them, \u201c<em>You have insulted forces beyond your comprehension.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Andromeda was nice enough to reassure us, <em>\u201cThis isn&#8217;t your fight!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ballmer is looking like a Titan we can live with!<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s the only one not swingin at us\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"># # #<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong> By  G.A. &#8220;Andy&#8221;
