Remember few days ago we showed you the first performance results of an upcoming HTC device called \u201cGlacier\u201d. At the time we only had CPU performance results. Since then, GLBenchmark.com has become our favorite place to hang out. Since we leaked those results, all mentions of HTC Glacier were removed from the site, perhaps at the request of HTC. Earlier today, I noticed that the HTC Glacier popped in again into the results database, this time with GPU performance results. <\/p>\n

Now, in our last article we had speculated that this phone made use of the dual-core snapdragon CPU. Now with the GPU results on our side, we have one more reason to believe that this phone might be using Qualcomm\u2019s QSD8672 chipset. In other words, it is using Qualcomm\u2019s highest end smartphone chipset to date, the dual-core QSD8672.<\/p>\n

First let\u2019s take a look at the results of the GPU on the HTC Glacier:<\/p>\n

Now why we believe that this phone uses the QSD8672 chipset ? <\/p>\n

The GPU score on the HTC Glacier is about 87% of the score of the Samsung Galaxy S using the PowerVR SGX 540 GPU. Samsung has stated that the Hummingbird processor is capable of processing up to 90 million triangles per second (MTPS). For confirmation on that watch this Samsung Galaxy S keynote video<\/a> around the 3:45 mark. Now here\u2019s an interesting fact: Qualcomm states that the QSD8672 can process up to 80 million triangles per second. So what\u2019s 80 MTPS divided by 90 MTPS ? The answer is around 88% which is almost the same percentage of performance from the above result.<\/p>\n

Of course, as with all speculation we could be wrong. One of the doubts that we have is that the QSD8672 is a third generation snapdragon. One would think that we would see a second generation snapdragon running around doing benchmarks before the third generation one. But one thing is for sure, that the HTC Glacier features a next generation snapdragon with a next generation GPU which might be the Adreno 210\/220 which is the renamed Imageon Z460. Which could only mean that the bar for performance is about to be raised for HTC phones.<\/p>\n
