My House or My House \u2013 Facebook\u2019s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, may have a shady past, having been accused of \u201cborrowing\u201d the Facebook concept, shutting people down, dispensing settlements.\u00a0 Still, Facebook has over 400,000 members and is the most active social site\u2026EVER!!!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He and his minions are hard at work to make people believe folks shouldn&#8217;t expect online privacy.\u00a0 Translation: privacy is overrated.<\/p>\n<p>For those of us in the \u201cbusiness,\u201d that\u2019s a good thing, that\u2019s a bad thing.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Business social sites are good for personal professional growth and business activities.\u00a0 The social media tracking also helps you market directly to folks\u2026that\u2019s a good thing!<\/p>\n<p>These are the prime marketing targets for us.<\/p>\n<p>By abandoning their privacy stuff, we can determine exactly who is on the social sites.\u00a0 In fact, a recent Synovate survey in 17 countries found that of those belonging, the Netherlands (49%) had the most followed by the UAE (46%), Canada (44%), US (40%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focused Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to a study by eMarketer of the folks who participate in social networking, 71% have profiles on two or more sites, 26% having four or more profiles.<\/p>\n<p>Of the social netters who have two or three profiles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> 25.6% are 18 to 24 years old<\/li>\n<li> 23.3% are 25 to 34 years old<\/li>\n<li> 14.7% are 35 to 44 years old<\/li>\n<li> 15.6% are 45 to 54 years old<\/li>\n<li> 18.4% are 55 to 64 years old<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gotta\u2019 be some truth to Zuck\u2019s position, because people everywhere are signing up for all the \u201cfree\u201d connection sites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20279\" title=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-3.jpg?resize=391%2C112\" alt=\"Untitled-3\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-3.jpg?resize=391%2C112 391w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-3-300x85.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 391px) 100vw, 391px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Figure 3 &#8211; What a Market \u2013 The personalized Facebook page idea appeals to both sexes, all ages.\u00a0 Social media has caught on because the sites allow people to connect and reconnect with people across the country, around the world.\u00a0 It\u2019s also proven to be a good way for companies to work more closely with customers.\u00a0 Source \u2013 Anderson Analytics<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to a recent Universal McCann study, they sign up for a lot of reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> message friends \u2013 82%<\/li>\n<li> upload photos \u2013 76%<\/li>\n<li> find old friends \u2013 74%<\/li>\n<li> find new friends \u2013 56%<\/li>\n<li> join a group \u2013 48%<\/li>\n<li> display current\/favorite music \u2013 35%<\/li>\n<li> promoting band\/service \u2013 35%<\/li>\n<li> upload videos \u2013 33%<\/li>\n<li> professional\/work contacts \u2013 30%<\/li>\n<li> dating\u00a0 17%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recently, we were discussing Twitter and social sites (they often get lumped together) with Dr. Jon and the rush to be a part of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20280\" title=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-4.jpg?resize=232%2C177\" alt=\"Untitled-4\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Figure 4 &#8211; Come One, Come All \u2013 The free social media sites enable people to find and make friends, plan events\/activities and simply stay in touch in a formal or informal manner.\u00a0 Illustration &#8212; NYTimes<\/p>\n<p>His observation was that folks were Hell-bent to see how many \u201cfriends\u201d they could get. \u00a0In his mind, it was B.S. because friends are people:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li> you know their birth date<\/li>\n<li> you know the color of their eyes<\/li>\n<li> you know their favorite food\/drink<\/li>\n<li> you know their cellphone number, email\/home address<\/li>\n<li> you\u2019d loan $20 to and not worry about getting it back<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rest?\u00a0 Acquaintances, passing relationships.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of billion folks on the iNet. An itty-bitty fraction of them we want to share a lot of personal\/family information with.<\/p>\n<p>The number we\u2019re going to give $20 is smaller yet\u2026a helluva\u2019 lot smaller!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested Parties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s O.K. when you look at the sites as a marketing avenue, since social media gives folks a chance to connect directly to you and gives you an opportunity to use the search\/click info to jump onto their screens.<\/p>\n<p>Face it, people don\u2019t read that legal mouse nuts type when they opt in (including you), so the sites gather a ton of solid marketing data they sell to you.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, they are also grabbing your info for your company and personal account as well.<\/p>\n<p>All kinds of groups are working on ideas that will shield personal data from the social site\u2019s use, marketers and meanies \u2013 the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), <strong><em>Consumers Reports<\/em><\/strong>, Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF).<\/p>\n<p>The US Congress and Homeland Security are working on the ultimate solution which, with their track record, means every legitimate business (like Amazon, Netflix, eBay, etc) will be affected!<\/p>\n<p>Or, as Martin Luther King said, <em>\u201cNothing is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are two areas you need to concern yourself with when it comes to privacy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> your organization\u2019s Facebook page and opt-in folks<\/li>\n<li> your personal page(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For your business page, being open and respectful of opt-in people is a must.<\/p>\n<p>For your personal page\u2019s privacy, do what we did\u2026ask your kids!<\/p>\n<p>They know how to practice safe social networking.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Concern About Online Security<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20281\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-5.jpg?resize=361%2C148\" alt=\"Untitled-5\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-5.jpg?resize=361%2C148 361w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Untitled-5-300x122.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>Figure 5 &#8211; Mintel<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Personal Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want to show your ignorance to your kids, check out <strong><em>Fast Company<\/em><\/strong> magazine\u2019s guide &#8212; IDC<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Facebook has more than 400 million people sharing billions of pieces of content with their friends and you.\u00a0 Where better to mine data, hack good information, discover vulnerabilities?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>YEP!!!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crooks regularly tap into the social media databases scooping up thousands of email addresses.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer Report found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> 42% of Facebook users volunteer their full birthdate, prime data for ID thieves<\/li>\n<li> 31% post kids&#8217;
