I&#8217;m after them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Granted, the iPhone shook up\/revitalized the smartphone arena.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eric Likes it Too<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It did so well that his great old friend over at Google decided he\u2019d take a stab at it too.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, his phone died on the vine, but his Android OS attracted everyone that they\u2019d take a whack as well.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs opened a little store in the clouds and everyone followed suit\u2026smartphone sales are outta\u2019 sight and going to get even better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Smartphone Sales featurephone still account for over 80 percent of the worldwide market which is over five billion subscribers.\u00a0 Some even cheat with a feature\/android phone for calls and iPhone for the other the guys\/gals who had dreams of selling a gazillion apps thought what a great guy he was\u2026O.K., so only a few made a couple of bucks.<\/p>\n<p>He looked at all the markets he wanted to tap and shouted out BR\u2019s statement, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>The rest of you people go slam your brains against your desks until something useful comes out!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>It worked so well, Jobs now has the Walmart of apps!<\/p>\n<p>Service providers are delighted because since his unit is still a rotten phone \u2013 don\u2019t kid yourself it isn\u2019t AT&amp;T\u2019s fault and you\u2019ll find out when all those Verizon Kool-Aide drinkers jump on line &#8212; folks are downloading just about everything and spending hours on their devices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spit, Polish, Magic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then, he took the 10-15 year old tablet made it something new, spectacular\u2026voila &#8212; the iPad.<\/p>\n<p>It may look like an iPhone on steroids, but lots a folks swear it\u2019s a computer.<\/p>\n<p>Their rationale?\u00a0 Well, you can\u2019t make a call with it (ooppss, bad analogy).<\/p>\n<p>But still, you can web surf, work on documents\/presentations, move photos around.<\/p>\n<p>So engineers\/manufacturing folks hunkered down and at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) you\u2019ll see no less than 80 tablets&#8230;suddenly a new\/hot computer category emerges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Projected Tablet Sales<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Untitled-31.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a computers.\u00a0 Dozens rushed out announcements on their \u201ckillers\u201d and by the end of Q1, you\u2019ll have a dizzying array to choose from running Android or some flavor of Windows and in a wide range of features\/prices.\u00a0 It\u2019s one more device you\u2019ll carry with you\u2026whee!\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They\u2019re a good solution for a lot of things people wanted.\u00a0 According to a Forrester study they filled a need:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Phone doesn\u2019t meet my needs \u2013 58%<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I like to look things up online when I\u2019m on the go \u2013 48$<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I miss the iNet when away from home, work \u2013 41%<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Phone screens are too small to do things besides calls, messages \u2013 60$<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Laptops are too big\/heavy to take everywhere with me \u2013 24%<\/p>\n<p>Then, Jobs\u2019 refreshed the Mac and people thought it was much better than everyone else\u2019s netbook that the iPad was going to kill anyway.<\/p>\n<p>He mumbled something about this was the way computing is going to be now.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of brilliant stockbrokers got so brave as to say, \u201cHey lump all of his stuff together and Apple\u2019s No 1 in PC sales!\u00a0 That should kick up our brokerage fees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>U.S. PC Market Share, Including the iPad<\/strong><a blurring.\u00a0 Smartphones, tablets, notebooks, netbooks are all computers\u2026more powerful than your desktop of a few years ago.\u00a0 People are increasingly packing up, using them all.\u00a0 You don\u2019t leave home without your phone.\u00a0 You have your notebook with you when you need to do real work.\u00a0 The in between \u201cawkward\u201d times are ideal for a tablet.\u00a0 What\u2019s memory<\/p>\n<p>Sure, the iPad\/iPhone user would like more than 32GB storage but the delta for a 64GB unit was huge!<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the smartphone users in the family have two 32GB cards in their devices; but still, you\u2019re talking $80-$100 for a 32GB SD card.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, a tablet is great for personal and business usage so the two of us are still looking have our specs already in mind:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10, maybe 12 in screen<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SD card slot<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 USB slot<\/p>\n<p>No, the USB slot isn\u2019t for a keyboard \u2013 the screen keyboard takes a little getting used to, but it works really well.<\/p>\n<p>No, with the USB slot you can easily plug in an external HD and today\u2019s drives are nearly as rugged as an SD card and a lot more rugged than the smartphone or tablet!<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and another 500GB drive?<\/p>\n<p>About $60!<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a big spread between chip memory cost and HD cost and only a guy who charges a premium for his products would be willing to cough up that much money in good times or \u2026bad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Untitled-101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" applications.\u00a0 There are a few things the technology doesn\u2019t have \u2013 ultra-low cost, ultra-high storage capacity, ultra ultra-high production capacities.\u00a0 The best designs are a <strong><em>Flash<\/em><\/strong> (like that play on words?) the ROW (rest of the world) came to the logical conclusion\u2026HDs are a dying storage medium.<\/p>\n<p>Steve couldn\u2019t be wrong!<\/p>\n<p>But he borrowed from Nick Naylor and responded, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>I didn&#8217;t have to.
