exhilarating!<\/p>\n<p>You can be in touch with anyone, anywhere&#8211;all the time.\u00a0 And anyone, anywhere can be in touch with you.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re at home, in the office, in class, at a party, thinking about a party, talking about a party\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Doing, thinking anything you tap, post it, <strong><em>BAM!!<\/em><\/strong> you\u2019re sharing\u2026with the virtual world.<\/p>\n<p>Wait a minute, you don\u2019t want to share it with \u201cthem?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t want them to tap into your device\u2026your home\u2026your business?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tough!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Privacy is invaded all of the time.<\/p>\n<p>As the woman in green said, <em>\u201cI&#8217;ve been watching you all night from across the room.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve developed neat stuff like Zeus-Murofet, Conficker and Koobface SymbOS\/Zitmo.A and Android\/Geinimi, OddJob, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/connect\/blogs\/banking-proxy-trojantatanarg\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/connect\/blogs\/banking-proxy-trojantatanarg', 'Trojan.Tatanarg']);\" target=\"new\">Trojan.Tatanarg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trojans are the most abundant type of malware on the Internet, accounting for 60 percent of the top 10 threats.<\/p>\n<p>Tatanarg, for example, is a masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>It can hijack SSL\/TLS connections (check the meaning at Wikipedia) between say the bank and proxy servers, use the bank data, insert its own and as far as you\u2019re concerned, everything is cool, secure.<\/p>\n<p>After all, you see the bank\u2019s secure https sign, so what could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-25.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \/>\n<strong>Financial Opportunities \u2013 <\/strong>The volume of new mobile devices presents a tremendous opportunity for hucksters and cybercriminals to tap in, find just the right information and capture very good profits with very little risk.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s actual wireless phone calls or unique apps, the mobile device is giving nasty people a huge garden of devices to harvest from.\u00a0 Users just don\u2019t think about security right now.<\/p>\n<p>Gee\u2026think we\u2019ll stick with paper \u2018n people.<\/p>\n<p>They aren\u2019t just targeting you.<\/p>\n<p>According to Symantec (the security folks), it\u2019s global.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World of Hurt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They track this stuff and have found that data breaches show no sign of leveling off and are increasingly costly.<\/p>\n<p>And the boundary between hactivism and cybercrime is a little fuzzy.<\/p>\n<p><a Pirates \u2013 It s<\/strong>eems like almost everywhere you turn, there is someone or some group out to make a statement and they want to do it right on your device.\u00a0 It was simple for Anonymous to plant viruses and Trojans in servers and devices.\u00a0 Security firms are always one step behind because you don\u2019t know what evil someone will do until it has been done.<\/p>\n<p>Then too, there are those really foggy areas that governments like to refer to as \u201cin the public interest\u201d and \u201cnational\/international security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a level of security challenges\/headaches for IT personnel.\u00a0 The smartphone, tablet, USB drive, notebook are all subject to physical and data loss.\u00a0 Who is held responsible?\u00a0 Why IT\u2026of course.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the best businesses to be in it seems is security hardware, software, service.<\/p>\n<p>Frank studied the numbers and commented, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>I want to keep it straight in my head what job I&#8217;m doing.\u201d<\/em><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to IDC, the security industry racked up more than $65B in sales around the globe and even the best of them are constantly challenged to keep up with the bad guys.<\/p>\n<p>It used to be Windows PCs were the big target, but that\u2019s so yesterday.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s your new toys.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-54.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25477\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-54.jpg?resize=500%2C274\" alt=\"\" Data \u2013 <\/strong>We<strong> <\/strong>may be \u201cconvinced\u201d that the business world is adopting tablet solutions in wholesale numbers.\u00a0 But tablets aren\u2019t replacing notebook systems; and\u00a0 smartphones aren\u2019t replacing all of the other devices.\u00a0 Sorry, but people are increasingly carrying five or six devices \u2013 smartphone, notebook, tablet, ereader, MP3 player<strong>\u2013<\/strong>all needing protection.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>World of Apps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then too, there are those growing libraries of apps.<\/p>\n<p>Who really guarantees that they\u2019re really good, lead you to places that are really legitimate, don\u2019t have any hidden backdoors?<\/p>\n<p>In fact, McAfee (another group of folks who focus on security), recently reported a 46 percent increase in mobile device malware &#8211; 20 million new pieces of malware or nearly 55,000 new threats every day from 2009 to 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Folks go where the action is.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, so Google in its rush to keep up with Apple, let a few apps in the library with Trojans; but geez, they did proactively go out to all of the infected devices and remove the pesky things.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s really neat.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the fact that they \u2013 or the appropriate government agency \u2013 can reach out any time they want, find your device, reach inside and do stuff shouldn\u2019t bother you in the least\u2026does it?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Right!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frank looked around and noted, \u201c<em>I want to keep it straight in my head what job I&#8217;m doing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It boils down to a matter of private, public cooperation and trust.<\/p>\n<p>We have to get comfortable with the inevitable failure, the inevitable breach.<\/p>\n<p>As Frank said, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>The people who hire me, they don&#8217;t have to be convinced to save their own lives.\u201d<\/em><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have to come to an understanding that the value of sharing outweighs the risk of the failure\/breach.<\/p>\n<p>When it doesn\u2019t, get rid of the devices, the connections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Go for a Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, that includes your car.<\/p>\n<p>Have you seen the guy call his wife shortly after she boarded a plane and asks her to unlock the car and then she starts it?<\/p>\n<p>OnStar system, Safety Connect, Enform, Sync, Assist, Mbrace are all great in an emergency or a pinch!\u00a0 They wirelessly connect to the car and provide a fantastic service.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, bad guys can use the same access, insert malicious software, access the car\u2019s electronic control unit and give a whole new approach to smash \u2018n grab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-62.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>More Sophisticated Carjacking \u2013 <\/strong>Because today\u2019s autos are so widely connected and have major computing power, you may wonder if Rockstar might have to completely redesign GTA (Grand Theft Auto) to mirror state-of-the-art car theft.\u00a0 It may be real but not as much fun with advanced technology boosting, rather than smash \u2018n grab.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; Rockstar<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There\u2019s not a huge concern though because the automotive and HW\/SW industries are taking the job of improving the security of your car very seriously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Security at Work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O.K., so the bad guys are doing their darndest; but come on, we\u2019re not riding a bike to work.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of work, it turns out your boss and the IT departments are also concerned.<\/p>\n<p>All those neat devices people are insisting that they use in their work also make it very easy for hackers and disgruntled employees to work their magic.<\/p>\n<p>Frank looked around, saw the situation and said, <em>\u201cThis house is wide open.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25479\" everyone has a minimum of two devices they regularly use on the wired and wireless network.\u00a0 Unfortunately, few ensure every device is secure.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; IDC<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Risk consultants Kroll reported for the first time that companies were experiencing more electronic data theft than physical theft.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty easy \u2013 whether it\u2019s for a legitimate business purpose, by accident or a malicious reason &#8212;\u00a0 to walk out with the company&#8217;s sensitive data on a USB stick.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-82.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25481\" title=\"Untitled-8\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Untitled-82.jpg?resize=315%2C237\" alt=\"\" From Within \u2013 <\/strong>While IT organizations build as robust walls as possible around the company\u2019s network and data, most of the loss occurs either maliciously or accidentally by people who are bent on \u201cacquiring\u201d the data for their own profit or it is moved out of the organization and lost by accident or careless actions.\u00a0 The most valuable and most dangerous asset walks out the front door every evening.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses lost almost $1.7 million per billion dollars in sales worldwide, compared to the $1.4 million per billion dollars reported in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s your information or your company\u2019s, you know there\u2019s hundreds of ways and thousands of folks out there who can reach in and suck out your important stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal Security<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The key isn\u2019t to be paranoid because then you wouldn\u2019t even get out of bed.\u00a0 Simply use reasonable security including:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use strong passwords &#8211; at least 10 character minimums, maximum of 90-day changes, forced complexity<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use secure file, folder permission<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use privilege account log-in<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Delete unnecessary software<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Remove insecure programs like TFTP<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use a securely configured browser on your devices<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Keep your OSes and apps patched, current<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use up-to-date antimalware<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use a firewall with appropriate rules set<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use strong wireless protocols \u2013 WPA2, EAP-TLS, etc<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use HTTPS connected cloud-based email, services, sites<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be cautious, skeptical<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we\u2019ve all heard folks walking down the street, sitting in a restaurant, getting on a plane, whatever hollering on their cellphone to order something spilling everything including credit card info\u2026and more.<\/p>\n<p><a mind.\u00a0 Today\u2019s insecure mobile devices and poorly protected cloud storage make it surprisingly easy for hackers and criminals to capture just the data they want\/need to do further damage to
