<\/strong>Even if you\u2019re a teen or older, you look at the younger generation and wonder if they were born wired.\u00a0 They get devices \u2013 notebooks, tablets, smartphones \u2013 sooner and almost immediately, they\u2019re outperforming you.\u00a0 It\u2019s humiliating asking a little kid to help you get the most out of your device.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; eMarketer<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the U.S., it\u2019s estimated that over 20 million children go online at least once a month (39.9%) and by 2014, 47.8 percent of the youngsters will be cruising the digital universe.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent global study on how kids interact with digital technology, 41 percent of the kids under 15 preferred PCs to TV.<\/p>\n<p>Once they get online, there\u2019s no holding them back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27194\" title=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-3.jpg?resize=370%2C248\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-3.jpg?resize=370%2C248 370w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-3-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 370px) 100vw, 370px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Learning Process \u2013 <\/strong>Even little kids have personal mobile devices and begin learning at a very young age.\u00a0 In addition to the Leaptop shown above, Leapfrog recently introduced the new LeapPad which should be a huge seller this Christmas season.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Heck, we didn\u2019t get our Commodore 64 until we were 19.<\/p>\n<p>Couldn\u2019t talk to anyone because Gore hadn\u2019t even taken the initiative to create the iNet.<\/p>\n<p>But it isn\u2019t just the computer; today\u2019s kids have embraced all of the digital technologies\u2026with ease.<\/p>\n<p>Some psychologists might say this leads them to be socially inept, but they build their online\/offline as they age.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s probably nothing wrong with that but as any kid knows, parents don\u2019t have a clue what\u2019s <strong><em>really<\/em><\/strong> going on.<\/p>\n<p>Ingrid laid down the law though when she said, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>There is no hacking in this household!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Responsible parents watch and warn kids about talking to strangers in the real world, but the online world is filled with strangers.\u00a0 Some are even marketers who try to convince them to buy their product\/service.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27195\" title=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-4.jpg?resize=528%2C364\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-4.jpg?resize=528%2C364 528w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-4-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><strong>Online Entertainment \u2013 <\/strong>While it is true youngsters are still plopping in front of the TV to be entertained and learn, increasingly parents have found new online, interactive opportunities for them that are even more feature-rich.\u00a0 The online activities also allow them to improve their hand\/eye coordination and learn along the way.\u00a0 In addition, they have a wide range of digital devices to use.\u00a0 <strong>Source \u2013 Pew Research<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One big online activity is watching video&#8230;duuuhhh!<\/p>\n<p><strong>On Early<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>eMarketer estimated that nearly 10 million kids under 12 will watch their stuff online this year.\u00a0 Last year, they estimate 44 percent of these kids were on the internet and by 2015, 70 percent will be downloading, streaming.<\/p>\n<p>Little kids (2-11) view 51streams monthly, 118 minutes per person.\u00a0 According to the Joan Ganz at Cooney Center, 30 percent of children three and younger spend some time each week using computers, video games, mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>After that, the video increases \u2013 80 percent of the 4-to 5-year-olds do digital things and more than 90 percent of the 6-to 8-year-olds more than 90 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 82 percent of the teens (12-17) were online regularly, but only 25 percent were what Nielsen Online categorizes as active.<\/p>\n<p>O.K., don\u2019t start screaming that the next generation won\u2019t be able to interact offline with real people as opposed to virtual people they do do other stuff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27196\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-5.jpg?resize=272%2C298\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Online, Offline \u2013 <\/strong>It\u2019s true that children spend time online\/on devices at an earlier age; but they also spend a lot of time offline with real people as well.\u00a0 They move effortlessly between the online\/offline worlds, expanding their social and life skills.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; Nielsen<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kids\u2019 lives are overflowing with media \u2026 digital media.<\/p>\n<p>They started out after the daily routine included reading newspapers\/magazines, getting news capsules from the TV.\u00a0 It\u2019s all served up to them instantly online using a variety of media and that increases as they get older.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27197\" title=\"Untitled-6\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-6.jpg?resize=424%2C384\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-6.jpg?resize=424%2C384 424w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-6-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Digital Playground \u2013 <\/strong>Around the globe, youngsters are going online to make their mark.\u00a0 The problem is parents don\u2019t have a real handle on how often\/long they are on or where they spend the majority of their time.\u00a0 <strong>Source \u2013 AVG Technologies<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Guess as semi-adults, we can\u2019t blame the kids.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t design, develop, produce it\u2026that\u2019s our legacy.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t beat yourself up over it\u2026in the long run; it\u2019s a good thing because they do communicate.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes a little more than you might like because:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They will probably regret some of the stuff they communicate, heck \u201cmatures\u201d do<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Advertisers work hard to have them become their BFs and like them even though kids are smarter than marketers give them credit for and get their best info from friends and regular folks who honestly review\/use the stuff<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are bad folks out there who bully, stalk, steal<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27198\" title=\"Untitled-7\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-7.jpg?resize=401%2C330\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-7.jpg?resize=401%2C330 401w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-7-300x246.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Influentials \u2013 <\/strong>Children and young adults are ideal targets for marketing messages; but marketers also have to walk a fine line to not irritate parents by focusing on the youngsters.\u00a0 While young people may be born with a digital DNA, they also have healthy skepticism for advertising messages compared to recommendations from friends and consumer reviews.\u00a0 <strong>Source &#8211; myYearbook<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For parents, the challenge is they really don\u2019t know what their kid are doing\u2026focus parents, focus.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Harris Interactive study, parents said their children spent only two hours a month on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Surprise!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kids said they actually spend about 10X that or 20 hours, and 41 percent of those ages 13-17 said parents had no clue as to what they did online.\u00a0 In fact, only 33 percent of the parents worldwide said they set any parental controls or monitored the kids\u2019 online activity.<\/p>\n<p>Donnagon Giggles saw the figures and said reassuringly, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>No, no, my children are fine&#8230; somewhere in the Gobi desert.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Maybe Geoffrey Moore should write a new Chasm book??<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Face it, there\u2019s a huge global digital divide between parents\/adults and cyber-savvy kids.<\/p>\n<p>Online games, virtual worlds, ecommerce sites and social media are increasingly incorporating two-way communications \u2013 VoIP, Chat, IM \u2013 into their activities.<\/p>\n<p>And the online stuff is moving to the offline world.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it\u2026online dating, offline marriages.<\/p>\n<p>Some say it works.<\/p>\n<p>We did it the old-fashioned way and that\u2019s worked for a big bunch of years!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Platform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But for the up-and-comers, technology (internet, mobile devices) is integrated into their lives so much, they don\u2019t even think about tech stuff\u2026they just do it!<\/p>\n<p>The challenge for companies though is that kids don\u2019t think about whether it\u2019s a Samsung smartphone, iPhone, Dell notebook, Lenovo tablet, iPad, you name it.
