The emphasis is on comparing 3D Vision driver changes on performance in DX10 and DX11 games.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/PopOut-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"PopOut-1\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/PopOut-1.jpg?resize=300%2C199\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>This 3D Vision driver performance evaluation will give us a natural comparison of the driver performance improvements for the high-end GTX 500 series as we will test the GTX 580 at 1080P.\u00a0 The percentage of change from upgrading the drivers should remain about the same for any capable CPU\/GPU platform.<\/p>\n<p>The settings are marked on the charts and &#8216;ultra&#8217; or the highest setting is always picked when there is a choice, except as noted.\u00a0 Motion Blur is always off if there is a choice in the game&#8217;s control panel. We are going to test GeForce 285.62 versus the last GeForce 280.26 driver using ten games from our current benchmark suite of about 30 modern PC games. Our testing platform is Windows 7 64-bit using Intel Core i7-920 at 3.80 GHz, 6 GB DD3, and our Nvidia video cards is a GTX 580.<\/p>\n<p>All of the games are tested at 1920&#215;1080 with 16xAF, and we use DX11\/10\/10.1 whenever possible.\u00a0 Vsync is left off but mostly governed by the 3D Vision drivers which will override any user-chosen setting. We are testing some of the very games that they show improvements in!<\/p>\n<p>We are very excited to see the changes in <em>DiRT 3<\/em>as previously most of the effects that made DX11 worthwhile had to be switched off for 3D Vision in the previous drivers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><!--pagetitle: Test Configuration--><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle: Performance Summary Charts & Conclusion--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><strong>Benchmarks &amp; Conclusion<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here are our results of 10 benchmarks &#8211; games rated mostly Excellent and 3D Vision Ready with two rated Fair &#8211; compared between GeForce 280.26 and 285.62 using the GTX 580.\u00a0 The third results column shows the performance of the game played at the same settings in 2D.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wins&#8221; are in <strong>bold<\/strong>; if there is a tie, both results will be in bold type.\u00a0 We tested at 1920&#215;1080 which appears to be the most popular 3D Vision resolution. <a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-110.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27551\" title=\"Untitled-1\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-110.jpg?resize=525%2C353\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-110.jpg?resize=525%2C353 525w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-110-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>We note some performance improvement with the new drivers for <em>DiRT 3 <\/em>but the most amazing thing are the visual results from upgrading the driver.\u00a0 <em>DiRT 3<\/em> has transformed from an ugly duckling into a swan.\u00a0 We can now play with details maxed out and the game looks stunning in 3D!\u00a0 We saw the same thing happen last month with <em>Super Street Fighter IV<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at these same figures expressed in a graph. <a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-29.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27552\" title=\"Untitled-2\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-29.jpg?resize=482%2C1051\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-29.jpg?resize=482%2C1051 482w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-29-137x300.jpg 137w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Untitled-29-469x1024.jpg 469w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>We also noted improvements in the visuals for 3D Vision, not so much performance increases.\u00a0 There was definitely less crosstalk in <em>DiRT 3<\/em> and the eyestrain was gone.\u00a0 M<em>etro 2033<\/em> looks spectacular in 3D but really needs a GTX 590 or mult-GPU to experience it fluidly,\u00a0<em> Lost Planet 2<\/em> has real issues with 3D Vision and there is much in the foreground to distract the player from the overall experience.\u00a0 We will probably not include L<em>ost Planet 2<\/em> in upcoming 3D Vision testing.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see with <em>Super Street Fighter IV<\/em>, the framerate is locked by the 3D Vision drivers at 60 fps (as are many of the 3D Vision games) no matter how high the detail or AA settings are set.\u00a0 This game could probably be played well with 3D Vision on a midrange GTX.\u00a0 Since the framerates are locked, we will not continue to test this game except with lower-end hardware or mobile products. We always try to make our settings as demanding as possible &#8211; but not so as to bog the game down so that fluidity is affected.\u00a0 <em>Mafia II<\/em> is played with PhysX on high and if you are going to use a GTX 580 for 3D Vision, we would suggest you use a dedicated PhysX processor or to lower PhysX to the medium setting.<\/p>\n<p>We also appreciated the updated 3D Vision GeForce 285.26 drivers and we recommend that you download and upgrade to the very latest drivers no matter which Nvidia video card that you may have! We have to also give our highest recommendation to the latest GeForce 3D Vision drivers.
