and younger generations are making mobile content a part of their daily lives.\u00a0 Today\u2019s smartphones and tablets are becoming popular educational, informational, entertainment tools.\u00a0 <strong>Source \u2013 eMarketer<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to eMarketer, the average internet user watches about 16.8 hours of online video a month.\u00a0 This was up from last year\u2019s 14.5 hours of video for the same month.<\/p>\n<p>comScore\u2019s research results are even higher.\u00a0 They recently reported that a total of 178 million Americans watched a record 6.26 billion video sessions in a year. \u00a0Part of that acceleration is attributed to more people using their mobile devices \u2013 smartphones and tablets \u2013 for viewing.<\/p>\n<p>The growing number of online viewers has the cable industry concerned that people will \u201ccut the cord\u201d and move online to watch their movies and TV shows.<\/p>\n<p>Teens, tweens and millennials find it perfectly natural to watch news\/current events, TV shows, sports and TV shows on-the-go when it is convenient for them, not when the station or network airs them.<\/p>\n<p>The internet\/web is also the first place people go when they\u2019re looking for information on a product, service, problem resolution, sales outlets, product\/application reviews and more.\u00a0 \u00a0As a result, videos provide manufacturers and retailers an excellent opportunity for capturing and holding eyeballs on the web when they\u2019re looking for specific information.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-33.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28638\" title=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-33.jpg?resize=260%2C114\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><strong>Viewing Outlets \u2013 <\/strong>In addition to posting company videos on the organization\u2019s website, firms can add them to their company\u2019s Facebook page, Google+ and a wide range of video posting sites for added traffic.\u00a0 One of the keys is to ensure good SEOed copy accompanies them to optimize viewer opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to your own website, there is a growing list of video placement locations that allow people to share personal and business videos on specific topics that blend with today\u2019s social shopping activities.\u00a0 These video sites are being swamped with content being uploaded and viewed around the globe.\u00a0 For example, YouTube reports that every minute, 48 hours of video is uploaded to their site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mini-Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, the bulk of video viewed online is snackable \u2014bite-sized information\/entertainment, rather than a complete meal of full TV episodes or full-length movies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-43.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28639\" title=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-43.jpg?resize=279%2C188\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>The most popular online video content, watched by 40 percent or more of the US online video audience, are short pieces of five minutes or less.<\/p>\n<p>An industry analyst recently explained the reason for the short sessions, <em>\u201cPeople are online and bombarded so much that they have the attention span of a minnow.\u00a0 A minnow never gets bored swimming around his small bowl because every time he comes back around\u2026it\u2019s all new!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-52.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28631\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=495%2C314\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=495%2C314 495w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-52-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><strong>Short is Best \u2013 <\/strong>While people get their video content online, most of it is not full- length TV shows or movies.\u00a0\u00a0 The majority of viewers prefer fast, informational messages.\u00a0\u00a0 Slow opening scenes will make it easier for people to click away from the video. <strong>Source &#8211; TubeMogul<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We won\u2019t publicly agree or disagree with the statement, but we do know that the average video session was only 5.4 minutes this year, up very slightly from the prior year.<\/p>\n<p>Just in case you think all of those folks suddenly had a sudden need to watch ads they previously skipped over when watching shows on their TV set, the average online video ad remained the same for the past two years \u2013 0.4 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sorry\u2026it isn\u2019t the ads.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Adding online video to the company site is a way for the organization\u2019s communications and marketing staff to provide an up-close and personal look at products explain how they work and help people make the best purchase decision.<\/p>\n<p>Research shows video increases sales conversion and reduces returns.<\/p>\n<p>Increasingly, people visit websites and expect informative product pages that include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Alternative views<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ratings, reviews, customer feedback<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 How-tos, user guides, applications<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And in recent years, videos<\/p>\n<p>Video is the most creative, most effective marketing tool in nearly every area.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Types of Videos Used<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-62.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28632\" title=\"Untitled-6\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=458%2C169\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=458%2C169 458w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-62-300x110.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><strong>Beyond the Photo \u2013 <\/strong>Organizations that include informative but casual videos on their products, services and capabilities not only get more traffic, they keep people on their website three times longer according to researchers.\u00a0\u00a0 The range of video content that can be included goes well beyond a straight product \u201cfeature\u201d to include how-tos, installation, applications, troubleshooting and increasingly, third-party endorsements.\u00a0 <strong>Source \u2013 SundaySky<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Inform, Educate, Sell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Video has become such a powerful educational\/informational tool that firms are providing video links on releases.\u00a0\u00a0 In addition to improving sales and reducing returns, video can boost search engine optimization efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Sites and pages with video also rank higher, especially when they aren\u2019t embedded or in pop-up windows.<\/p>\n<p>Microblogs such as Twitter have become important tools to help good educational, informational videos go viral.<\/p>\n<p>While they understand the power and reach of video, marketing\/ communications people have been slow to implement it in both their internal and external programs because they believe:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s too time-consuming to do<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 it\u2019s too expensive<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s too difficult to do<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s too expensive<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wrong!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is true that some of the videos you\u2019ve read about and seen that have gone viral &#8212; seen by millions &#8212; have been done by very good video production crews.\u00a0 But the ideas came from the company\u2019s marketing, communications teams and you\u2019re just as smart as they are\u2026right?<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s nice to have a lot of really cool camera\/post production tools, it isn\u2019t the hardware and\/or software that make good videos.<\/p>\n<p>People do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your Best Camera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even seasoned videographers agree that the best camera is the one you have.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you don\u2019t have all of the expensive gear, you always have a camera with you\u2026on your smartphone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28633\" title=\"Untitled-7\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=373%2C280\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=373%2C280 373w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Untitled-72-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>Most smartphones today have 4-6 megapixel camera lenses (don\u2019t worry about what megapixels mean; or, if you really want to know, look it up in Wikipedia).<\/p>\n<p>Our smartphone has an added 16GB SD card which can store roughly three hours of HD video.<\/p>\n<p>Shoot enough raw footage and somewhere in the content you\u2019ll have three to five minutes of good video.<\/p>\n<p>If not, give the smartphone to one of the younger people in the office and he\/she will show you how to get some great content.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have the raw video the real creative \u2013 and pretty simple \u2013 work takes place.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a Mac user, you have a very good piece of video production software, iMovie.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a Windows PC user, you have more choices \u2013 Corel, Cyberlink, Adobe, Arcsoft, Avid Pinnacle and muvee to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>We really like Avid\u2019s Studio software because it\u2019s economical and has the tools, capabilities you\u2019d want\/need to make an award-winning indie film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Easy Post Work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our (current) favorite though is muvee Reveal.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have all of the multiple tracks, special effects and transitions; are more believable than polished ads.\u00a0 The software helps you explain products and visually assist customers in efficiently, effectively buying\/using your products\/services.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t go pro on them\u2026your job is to just take viewers through the product\/service story.
