Guess that\u2019s why they call it Big Data.<\/p>\n<p>The generation that most in the industry like to pay attention to is Millennials (18-29) they\u2019re the first generation that has grown up online.<\/p>\n<p>As Ripley explained, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>I&#8217;ve been out here a long time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Even a little shift in their technology usage gives you a real good indication of how younger generations will quickly adapt it to their usage \u2013 faster, better, more thoroughly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blurred Lines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The generational breakdown numbers are pretty impressive for the online generation.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31985\" title=\"Untitled-2\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-22.jpg?resize=318%2C225\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-22.jpg?resize=318%2C225 318w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-22-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Global Footprint \u2013 <\/strong><em>Millennials (19-29) were the first to be completely in the online world sharing ideas and information on a global scale. They bridge a lot the values and cautions of older generations but need to constantly be in touch with the younger generations. They are key individuals to helping us move across Michael Moore\u2019s technology chasm.<\/em> <strong>Source \u2013 U.S. Census<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Older generations were first classified as the \u201cGeneration We\u201d and were grouped as malcontents, coddled, naive (you know, the \u201coccupy\u201d movement).<\/p>\n<p>Of course, your generation was labeled a pain in the behind just as Millennials have been, right?<\/p>\n<p>Right!<\/p>\n<p>Still, someone got that whole labeling thing wrong.\u00a0 Actually, they\u2019re pretty adjusted in their own skin.<\/p>\n<p>Ripley added, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>I&#8217;m on medication.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31986\" title=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-32.jpg?resize=377%2C267\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-32.jpg?resize=377%2C267 377w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-32-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Not So Different \u2013 <\/strong><em>While older generations like to portray Millennials as the \u201cWe Gen,\u201d they are actually pretty satisfied with their position and their progress in the world they have inherited. Sure, they don\u2019t think their present job is a lifetime career point, but do you anymore?<\/em> <strong>Source \u2013 Kenmexa Institute<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Heck, they\u2019re more satisfied with the recognition they receive than the older categories (boomers, Gen Yers), more satisfied with their progress, and not really dissatisfied with their work\/pay.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true, they don\u2019t plan to stick with the same job (33 percent), compared to the older generations (average of 24 percent); but hey, they were looking for jobs when they found the ones they have now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Different Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Millennials certainly have a different work ethic than prior generations as Pew Research and Tempo, a firm that produces \u201cpainless time tracking\u201d recently reported.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the timesheets, Dillon declared, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>He&#8217;s *never* lied to me! He&#8217;s crazy, he&#8217;s a fool, but he&#8217;s not a liar!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-31987\" title=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-42.jpg?resize=554%2C137\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-42.jpg?resize=554%2C137 615w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-42-300x74.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Differences \u2013 <\/strong><em>The things that make generations different also make them stronger, better. The question was open ended and Pew chose the top five most frequent responses across each generation. Differences look pretty similar don\u2019t they?<\/em> <strong>Source \u2013 Pew Research<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We didn\u2019t realize that companies still waste time tracking time, but Tempo reported that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Millennials wasted four times more time than earlier generations<\/li>\n<li>The more educated, the more time wasted<\/li>\n<li>Time wasters were iNet usage (48%), coworker socializing (33%), personal business (30%), personal calls (19%)<\/li>\n<li>Excuses \u2013 lack of work satisfaction (49%), underpaid (34%), no incentive (24%), work hours too long (19%), \u201ceveryone else\u201d is a distraction (18%)<\/li>\n<li>Reasons for lost productivity \u2013 fixing others work (54%), office politics (47%), waiting for coworker (42%), meetings (42%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Different Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That probably hasn\u2019t changed much with each generation, but what has changed is their use of devices and the way they communicate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their desire to blog has dropped from 24 to 12% in the past five years<\/li>\n<li>Their use of social networking sites has increased from 37 \u2013 51% in the past four years<\/li>\n<li>Facebook is the most commonly used location but they\u2019re cautious, skeptical about what they post<\/li>\n<li>81% are wireless internet users \u2013 55% on laptop, 55% on a mobile phone, 28% on another device<\/li>\n<li>Two-thirds own a laptop, while only 58% own a desktop<\/li>\n<li>While teens own an average of 3.5 gadgets \u2013 cellphone, mp3 player, computer, game console, portable gaming device;\u00a0 Millennials have an average of four devices \u2013 cellphone\/smartphone, laptop, desktop, mp3 player, gaming device, ebook reader, tablet, iPad<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-31988\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=462%2C269\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=462%2C269 513w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-52-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Follow Us \u2013 <\/strong><em>Millennials have not only led their elders into the digital community they have also pointed out that the online world is one where you have to be a little more cautious and careful. They tend not to jump into the deep end on each new advance, but try it to see if it is worthwhile to invest their time in mastering.<\/em> <strong>Source \u2013 Pew Research<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Older generations seem to be obsessed with all of our newfound technology while Millennials and younger just tend to take it in stride, picking and choosing the device and solution that meets their need at that moment.<\/p>\n<p>As Melanie Shreffler, editor-in-chief of youth market research firm, Ypulse, recently noted, <em>\u201cIt\u2019s possible there\u2019s too much technology in our lives, even for Millennials.\u201d<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Millennials are willing to share their information when it is to their benefit and that includes their brand preferences.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Young Adult Internet Users Worldwide Who<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Are Willing to Share Their Brand Preference Online<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31989\" title=\"Untitled-6\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=428%2C227\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=428%2C227 428w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-62-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Cautiously Out There \u2013 <\/strong><em>Millennials around the globe are using sites to establish themselves and make their wants\/needs known. They share product information but \u201cLike\u201d just doesn\u2019t mean what people would like you to think it means. Like it\u2019s OK!<\/em> \u2013 <strong>Source &#8211; Edelman<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The challenge for marketers is to walk the fine line of \u201ctalking\u201d with them without promoting at\/past them to the older generation that is working side by side with the Millennials and wants to brandish his\/her latest technology understanding\/expertise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Different Marketing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You have to remember that Millennials are running just as hard, just as fast to keep up with Gen C teens\/tweens who never knew life before the Internet. For them, phone booths, mailboxes and faxes were historical things. Clever generation centric ads usually fail\u2026miserably.<\/p>\n<p>Gen Xers, Boomers who create\/target the campaigns might say they\u2019re cool, but really? Funny isn\u2019t it, the old stand-bys \u2013 reading about it, visiting the store, receiving a direct contact deliver the best results, even with Millennials. <strong>Source \u2013 The Neilsen Company<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to say that the latest, hottest social media site is where the ads should be to educate, interest, influence and sell \u2018em.<\/p>\n<p>Sorry, they just don\u2019t care what tech gadget they\u2019re using to get the information they want.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiking\u201d something is okay for older\/younger folks, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the dilemma, Ripley said, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Well, I guess I must make you nervous.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After all, there are better places to get the real buying information.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Millennials\u2019 Other Support Sources<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31990\" title=\"Untitled-7\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=463%2C255\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=463%2C255 463w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-72-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Only a Click Away \u2013 <\/strong><em>Millennials know exactly where to find assistance and information on problems, issues. They jump online to search for the answers or they access the company\u2019s resources to get the answer themselves. Millennials are remarkably self-reliant. <\/em><strong>Source \u2013 Isurus Market Research<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Millennials care about the health of the world around them as well as product quality, value, functionality.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>BUT<\/em><\/strong>\u2026they are also more image conscious than older generations, so cool factors also play in the buying decision.<\/p>\n<p>You think Apple sells boatloads of iPads, iPhones, iTouchs, Macs because of better working conditions, smaller carbon footprint, superior value?<\/p>\n<p>How about bling?<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, maybe a little!<\/p>\n<p>Millennials are very aware of where they do what online, how to manage their privacy, how to manage their digital trail.<\/p>\n<p>As we noted earlier, Millennials have grown up in the digital era and live in a media-saturated environment.<\/p>\n<p>When they have issues, questions or problems, they know where to go to find answers, solutions; which is way different from our approach (call a friend who understands this stuff!).<\/p>\n<p>Organizations already see the impact Millennials are having on their operations with the widespread use of BYOD (bring your own device) and increased organizational\/activity transparency.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Gen Xers and Boomers are staying in the workforce longer than earlier generations and often they\u2019re the folks in control of developing, changing our customer engagement models.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge is there are no longer generational groups of consumers anymore.<\/p>\n<p>There are individual consumers.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31991\" title=\"Untitled-8\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Untitled-82.jpg?resize=263%2C198\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>Image Source \u2013 \u201cAlien 3,\u201d 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century Fox<\/p>\n<p>Which is probably why Clemens said, <em>\u201cNow that I&#8217;ve gone out on a limb for you with Andrews, damaged my already less-than-perfect relationship with that good man and briefed you on the humdrum history of Fury 161;
