I want more.\u201d<\/i> <b>\u2013 Dr. Michael Anthony Brace, <i>Brainstorm<\/i>, MGM, 1983<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The recent EMC-sponsored IDC Digital Universe Report told you what you already knew \u2026 there is a crapload of stuff being prepared, sent, digested and used; and by 2020, it\u2019s only going to be worse.<\/p>\n<p>By then, we\u2019ll have surpassed more than 40 zettabytes or about 5,200 GB of stuff for every man, woman and child on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>We know IDC is good, but they amazed even me by pointing out that\u2019s 57 times more than all the grains of sand on all the beaches \u2026 everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>To compound the problem people are rushing to support\/buy the iPhone, Galaxy S4, LG whatever, Blackberry (really?) or WinPhone all to produce more stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Some are even hot for a phablet \u2013 just ask Samsung.<\/p>\n<p>That data includes the really important things \u2013 phone photos\/videos, YouTube uploads, 5K ultra- HD movies, TV shows, ATM bank data, security video monitors everywhere, CERN collider data, road toll data, package\/container tracking and even some business data.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, most of the data that\u2019s created, sent, analyzed, stored and used isn\u2019t even created by you.<\/p>\n<p>Its things talking to things.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34792\" alt=\"Untitled-2\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-22.jpg?resize=404%2C442\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-22.jpg?resize=404%2C442 404w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-22-274x300.jpg 274w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>You Aren\u2019t Alone \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>Everyone knows that they are the center of the data universe, creating stuff for and in social media. But they don\u2019t realize there are thousands, even millions of devices out there talking to each other, sharing data; and who knows, maybe even talking about you. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Really Intelligent Cars<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s so much good data out there that the government wants to have those devices to do more and protect you by driving your car.<\/p>\n<p>As Dr. Brace noted<i>, \u201c<\/i><i>It&#8217;s parts of the grid, but it&#8217;s still rotating.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the infrastructure isn\u2019t in place yet&#8211;you know, the transportation infrastructure; but still they\u2019ve said they want the intelligence in place.<\/p>\n<p>New cars already have a lot of the intelligence in place like anti-lock brakes, emergency brake assist, forward-collision warning, traction-control, blind-spot detectors, adaptive cruise control, drunk-driving prevention, lane departure warning\/prevention, automatic braking, self-parking, traffic sign\/pedestrian recognition and other things because admit it, you\u2019re a lousy driver.<\/p>\n<p>Driverless cars have been attempted and promoted for years, and Google\u2019s driverless car is <b><i>one <\/i><\/b>\u00a0of the latest \u201chighlights\u201d of technology.<a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-32.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34793\" alt=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-32.jpg?resize=474%2C329\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-32.jpg?resize=474%2C329 474w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-32-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>On the Road Again \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>Anyone who is anyone loves his or her iron horse to drive everywhere; but with all the automation that is being added with each new year, it won\u2019t be long before they\u2019ll do the driving for you. While that is still in the distant future, it hasn\u2019t slowed governments down that want to figure out why you crashed your car by installing automobile black boxes. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the U.S., regulators have proposed that by September 2014 all cars will come equipped with an airplane like black box \u201cevent data recorder\u201d to analyze why you got killed.<\/p>\n<p>The device will record everything the driver does, car speed, number of people in the car, location, everything and then it will send it to a big central cloud computer to be analyzed.<\/p>\n<p>O.K., so regulators are a little nosey when it comes to privacy, but they think it\u2019s important.<\/p>\n<p>As Gordy Forbes said, <i>\u201c<\/i><i>Just a little experiment in animal behavior.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>With the driverless car and black box, it will be up to the insurance companies\u2019 computers to fight over which one has to pay, how much and to whom.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re a little concerned about this Big Brother monitoring; but most people are concerned about their devices and their data, video, content.<\/p>\n<p><b>Minimize Device Options<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Frankly, I\u2019d like to lighten my load, but I use my desktop\/notebook computers, tablet, smartphone all the time; and so do you to create, share, use, store all that really important data.<a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-42.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34794\" alt=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-42.jpg?resize=581%2C293\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-42.jpg?resize=581%2C293 581w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-42-300x151.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Adding to Your Load \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>Every new device \u2013 smartphone, tablet \u2013 has been marketed by manufacturers as a replacement for your computer; and yet people keep using them and everything else to develop, produce, distribute, share, enjoy with anyone and everyone\u2026even people they\u2019d rather not have access the information. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Just remember, a ton of that digital universe is created and produced by folks like you and me for people to share, entertain, enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>While all of the manufacturers say their\u2019s is the one and only device you really need; it certainly doesn\u2019t stop us from buying the newer, better, more powerful, more sexy thing to use.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-52.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34795\" alt=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=554%2C444\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-52.jpg?resize=554%2C444 554w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-52-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>We\u2019re Active \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>Consumers everywhere continue to activate new mobile devices in growing numbers. In the US, one in four people own a tablet. More than three billion people around the globe own a mobile phone and increasingly, those are smartphones. New laptop acquisition has taken a breather because hey, there\u2019s only so much discretionary income people have and the present system can wait for awhile. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We aren\u2019t really ready to give up any of the devices; but there has been an awful lot of talking about the Post PC era, so we have to start being prepared for what\u2019s coming in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>People generally agree that the proliferation of devices has made us hyperconnected, but it\u2019s still done with the standard array of computing devices.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34796\" alt=\"Untitled-6\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=550%2C443\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-62.jpg?resize=550%2C443 550w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-62-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Technology Advances \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>In a relatively short period, computers have shrunk as their power, capabilities and energy consumption have decreased. At the same time, new device form factors have been introduced that are even smaller, more powerful and with different, sometimes increased capabilities. People speculate as to what 2020\u2019s new devices look like and what they\u2019ll do. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All the devices have changed with more features, more gimmicks, but they\u2019re still thought of by manufacturers and research analysts as separate product categories going up and down with the whims of businesses and consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Now the rumor is we\u2019re going to have a new category because Intel and Apple are working on the iWatch and don\u2019t forget everyone else is following.<\/p>\n<p>You know, it will tell time, monitor all your vitals, check your exercise schedule and just make life better for you \u2013 and it will give you something new to show off.<\/p>\n<p>The healthcare industry thinks this is cool because they say it will enable them to be even more proactive in your overall health by getting that up-to-date information into their cloud and know exactly what\u2019s going on and why.<\/p>\n<p>The big change that is taking place though is that it won\u2019t be long and you\u2019ll really have a screen you can use to more than just enjoy content.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-72.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34797\" alt=\"Untitled-7\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=411%2C236\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-72.jpg?resize=411%2C236 411w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-72-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 411px) 100vw, 411px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Sensory Screens \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>The new screen technologies and the work that is being done probably gets us most excited. Enabling the five senses in screens will certainly make things more natural for the pre-Gen C folks who already think you should be able to use hand\/finger motions for everything you see and do. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>First, the Screen<\/b><\/p>\n<p>IBM has predicted that over the next few years you\u2019ll have a screen on your device that will actually let you \u201cfeel\u201d the product you\u2019re considering buying without actually going into the store or relying on some lame product description to determine if it\u2019s what you want\/need.<\/p>\n<p>Some display manufacturers have already designed recognition systems that enable stores to recognize key things about you so that their marketing team will be able to beam you just the information they think you\u2019d like to see.<\/p>\n<p>Screens can also be produced to see objects and analyze patterns in the context of big data.<\/p>\n<p>IBM also says this feature could also be designed into healthcare systems to identify tiny disease areas and compare them with your medical history to make a faster, more accurate diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Voice recognition isn\u2019t anything new; but IBM says over the next few years, your devices will be able to do more than respond to sound. They\u2019ll also analyze what you said and how you said it to make predictions based on the sounds.<\/p>\n<p>Parents would love this feature because then the system could figure out what the little rug rat was saying and help them respond properly.<\/p>\n<p>Hitting all of the senses, IBM says that \u201cin a few years\u201d the device will be able to smell and if you sneeze it can deliver up valuable diagnostic information.<\/p>\n<p>Or, it might just say you stink!<\/p>\n<p><b>Over-Connected<\/b><\/p>\n<p>But when you step back and analyze all of your devices and the things you have to do, it\u2019s no wonder people are worrying about our multitasking and hyperconnectivity. According to reports from organizations like Pew Research Center, Elon University\u2019s imagining the Internet Center, our brains are rewiring to handle the constant inundation of data.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-82.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34798\" alt=\"Untitled-8\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-82.jpg?resize=240%2C243\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Brain Changes &#8211; <\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0\u00a0The constant barrage of content and data people simply have to have is rewiring the brain, according to many scientists and researchers. Being constantly on, constantly in touch is leading to increasingly shorter attention spans and a decline in analytical thinking\/reasoning according to many specialists. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>None of them can agree on whether the changes are good or bad, they\u2019re simply taking place.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers see a trend where people are spending more time sharing short social messages, being entertained and being distracted away from deep engagement with people and knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why Karen Brace said, <i>\u201c<\/i><i>But he always ignores me,\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>So the changes are taking place because we just can\u2019t put down our devices and spend time alone with ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than go through this change slowly, painfully and expensively (buying a new whatever every time we turn around), wouldn\u2019t it be better to just get ahead of the crowd and become a borg and be able to handle the waves of data and content that are constanty coming at you?<a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-92.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34799\" alt=\"Untitled-9\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-92.jpg?resize=256%2C189\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><i>Your Last Device \u2013 <\/i><\/b><i>With devices getting smaller, more powerful, more personal, it is obvious that the next giant leap forward will be for someone to introduce a <b>Star Trek <\/b>Borg implant that lets us access all of the data in the Cloud without having to constantly waste time searching for our mobile device. <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Think about it. With all the movies that have been created showing how it is done and how it changes everything you have to know, a bunch of engineers are working to perfect it for us.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Borg<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The one-time upgrade will then be better able to:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Handle an environment filled with data that can be retrieved effortlessly<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adapt to new information processing skills we need<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More easily hyperlink to information based on keywords, URLs<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Handle several complicated tasks well<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Give us an edge in dividing tasks that need quick, accurate decisons and those that need focused, deep thinking<\/p>\n<p>Of course, being constantly connected could have some undesirable side effects like innovation stagnation, a reduced ability to determine right from wrong or a loss of essential human skills\/morals.<\/p>\n<p>Guess it\u2019s better to just upgrade devices every six months and disconnect more often.<a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34800\" alt=\"Untitled-10\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Untitled-101.jpg?resize=282%2C202\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We\u2019ll just take Alex Treson\u2019s advice, \u201c<i>I want these personal experiments stopped.
