We will compare performance and price as the HOF sells for $449 and the SC for $459. We received a Galaxy GTX 770 Hall of Fame video card from Galaxy, and for the past week, we have also been comparing it to the AMD Radeon HD 7970 at GHz Edition speeds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Factory overclocked Galaxy GTX 770 HOF&#8217;s Competition &#8211; the HD 7970 GHz Edition and other overclocked GTX 770s<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This time, Galaxy is aiming to produce the very fastest factory overclocked GTX 770 with a core speed of 1202MHz, well above the stock reference settings of 1046MHz, and 91MHz above the 1111MHz core factory overclock of the EVGA&#8217;s SC GTX 770. This evaluation will showcase the Galaxy-overclocked GTX 770 HOF at its factory clocks, and also further overclocked by us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Besides comparing the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF with the HD 7970 GHz edition, an important comparison might be made with the $10 more expensive EVGA GTX 770 SC 4GB card which is currently selling for $459. There is an LED that &#8220;breathes&#8221; along the side of the card and it looks quite good through a case&#8217;s side panel window. The Hall of Fame edition is a physically handsome card to match its impressive specifications.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s compare the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF with the GTX 770 reference version and pay particular attention to the Base and Boost clocks. It will be interesting to see how much further our own sample overclocks and what its Boost will reach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are 75W more power available to the GPU from the two 8-pin PCIe connectors over the reference design&#8217;s 6-pin+8-pin design. We will compare GTX 770 SLI ($900) compared to a single GTX Titan ($1000) and to a GTX 690 ($1000), and also versus HD 7970 GHz Edition CrossFire ($900).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Super-Widescreen 5760 x1080, Surround, 3D Vision Surround, and PhysX<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Galaxy GTX 770 HOF is set up exactly the same way for spanning 3 displays plus an extra screen, just as the rest of the 600 series and 700 series, including the Titan.\u00a0 Since the GTX 770 is faster than the GTX 670 overall, one can reasonably expect the performance delta to be higher for super-widescreen resolutions as well as for Surround, 3D Vision Surround and for PhysX than in our last evaluation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=29607\">GTX 670<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, for 3D Vision and for Surround, many games need to have their settings reduced. An all-white videocard looks good installed inside a PC. The card itself, without the bracket\/cooler is only a single slot width, which opens up quite a few possibilities for modders. Unfortunately, we did not have an active Dual Link DVI to DisplayPort cable or adapters, and we could not use our HP LP3065 30&#8243; display at 2560&#215;1600. Our Galaxy GTX 770 HOF edition is already overclocked +154MHz over the Nvidia reference clocks. We were able to overclock a further +15MHz with complete stability even though we did not adjust the voltage nor our fan profile. In only one instance did we see our card go over 80C, so Boost almost never throttled performance. In this way we do not allow lack of power nor moderate temperatures to throttle performance. Likewise, we also max the PowerTune slider for AMD cards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Even though EVGA&#8217;s tool reported the same voltages, using Overvoltage appeared to help stabilize the overclock and we could hit just over +10MHz higher with it than without. Here is performance scaling using FireStrike which tolerated higher overclocks than some of the games we bench which only allowed a very conservative +15MHz on the core, but a respectable +350MHz overclock on the memory: <a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/OC-chart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38086\" title=\"core versus memory overclock chart gtx 770 hof\" alt=\"core versus memory overclock chart gtx 770 hof\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/OC-chart.jpg?resize=487%2C326\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/OC-chart.jpg?resize=487%2C326 487w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/OC-chart-150x100.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/OC-chart-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>It appears that overclocking the memory by a +100MHz offset delivers more performance in FireStrike than a +25MHz core overclock. The Galaxy GTX 770 HOF can certainly use the memory overclock although it got unstable with more than a 350MHz offset. Although it could complete the FireStrike bench, the score was no higher with +450MHz offset than with +400MHz and there was more visible artifacting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These HOF cards that Galaxy produces just beg for extreme voltage and insanely high clocks. Here is Galaxy GTX 780 overclocking at Computex:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4zJwYGC5O2w&amp;feature=share&amp;list=UUzvA8ZPYpQxu6BMvNvgTIog\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4zJwYGC5O2w&amp;feature=share&amp;list=UUzvA8ZPYpQxu6BMvNvgTIog', 'http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4zJwYGC5O2w&amp;feature=share&amp;list=UUzvA8ZPYpQxu6BMvNvgTIog']);\" >http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4zJwYGC5O2w&amp;feature=share&amp;list=UUzvA8ZPYpQxu6BMvNvgTIog<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">However, Nvidia is very strict about not allowing any of their partners to support more than 1.2V. If a modder uses a modified BIOS to bypass the voltage limit, they will be denied warranty coverage. It makes it somewhat pointless to use watercooling or any other aftermarket solution with only 1.2V since Galaxy&#8217;s own custom 3-fan cooling solution is slightly overkill as the card rarely reaches 80C under the most extreme conditions!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let&#8217;s head to the performance charts to see how the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF compares with the reference GTX 770, the EVGA GTX 770 SC 2GB, as well as versus the AMD HD 7970 at GHz Edition speeds. <!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle: Performance Summary Charts--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Performance summary charts &amp; graphs<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here are the summary charts of 24 modern PC games and 3 synthetic tests. The second column shows the results after we overclocked the HOF a further 15MHz on the core and +350MHz on the memory. Column 3 shows the EVGA GTX 770 SC 4GB results, while column 4 lists the reference GTX 770 results. Civilization V did not run at 5760&#215;1080 with GeForce, while the Witcher 2 did not run properly in Widescreen on the Radeon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Above is the master chart and we clearly see the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF dominate over the reference and mildly overclocked GTX 770s. In most games in our 30-game benchmark suite, the HOF is solidly faster than the HD 7970 at GHz Edition boost speeds. It makes up a some ground on the GTX 780 which the EVGA SC card could not manage &#8211; in fact, it beats the GTX 780 in 3D Mark 11 &#8211; the GTX 770 HOF scores 11495 while the <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/evga-gtx-770-sc-4gb\/4\/\">stock GTX 780<\/a> scores 11049!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let&#8217;s head for our conclusion. <!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle: The Conclusion--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This has been quite an enjoyable, if far too short, exploration for us in evaluating our new Galaxy GTX 770 HOF. It did extraordinarily well performance-wise comparing it to the reference GTX 770 and to the EVGA GTX 770 SC 4GB where it brings good performance value compared to the 4GB card, and runs away from the reference version. We are totally impressed with this cool-running enthusiast card which is generally faster than it&#8217;s competitor, the HD 7970 GHz Edition.<a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-38089\" title=\"Galaxy GTX 770 HoF picture\" alt=\"Galaxy GTX 770 HoF picture\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41.jpg?resize=300%2C207\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41.jpg?resize=300%2C207 300w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41-150x103.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41-720x498.jpg 720w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/HoF-SC-41.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We see good overclockability with reasonable quietness at stock voltage and fan profile even when the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF is overclocked beyond Galaxy&#8217;s factory overclock and it scales well in performance especially because of the memory overclock. It is as quiet as the reference GTX 770 or the EVGA GTX 770 SC, quiet cards indeed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For its $449 price, it gives more than 80% of the performance of the GTX 780 which is priced at $650 and it also runs away from other less aggressively factory overclocked GTX 770s. From our results, we can expect the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF will also generally be a bit faster than the fastest factory overclocked HD 7970s. At $449 it is priced to match them. And for ten dollars less than the GTX 770 4GB version, it makes sense to pick the 2GB HOF for a single card solution, while giving the gamer Galaxy&#8217;s excellent support and 3-year warranty.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Pros<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Galaxy GTX 770 HOF provides excellent performance for a $450 card and soundly beats even the HD 7970 GHz edition almost across the board.<\/li>\n<li>Overclockability is acceptable &#8211; GPU Boost works as advertised and the memory overclock really helps performance.<\/li>\n<li>The cooling design is quiet and efficient; the card and well-ventilated case stay cool even well-overclocked due to the Galaxy bracket.<\/li>\n<li>It is possible to use two of these cards for SLI performance<\/li>\n<li>Surround and 3D Vision Surround plus an accessory display can now be driven off of a single GTX 770 by requiring mini-HDMI adapters.<\/li>\n<li>You get a 3 year warranty backed by 24\/7 tech support.<\/li>\n<li>The upcoming<em> Batman Arkham: Origins<\/em> is bundled with this card at select retailers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cons<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>We only got a modest overclock at stock voltage and fan profile beyond the factory setting; changing the voltage had little effect.<\/li>\n<li>No Dual Link DVI connector on the card and no active adapter is included. You have to spend about $80 more for one if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Verdict:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are buying the fastest factory overclocked GTX 770 right now, the Galaxy GTX 770 HOF is an easy choice for less than fifty dollars more than the reference design. With great features like PhysX and the second generation of 3D Vision, you can be assured of immersive gaming by picking this card for 1920&#215;1080 to 5760&#215;1080 resolution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If you currently game on an older generation video card such as a GTX 570 or older, you will do yourself a big favor by upgrading.
