{"id":42179,"date":"2014-05-27T16:03:56","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T15:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=42179"},"modified":"2014-06-13T05:20:39","modified_gmt":"2014-06-13T04:20:39","slug":"watch_dogs-pc-geforce-performance-evaluation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/watch_dogs-pc-geforce-performance-evaluation\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch_Dogs PC GeForce performance evaluation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Watch_Dogs<\/em> is probably the most hyped new game of the year.\u00a0 Destructoid called it one of the \u201cmost wanted games of 2014&#8243;,\u00a0 CNET said it was \u201cone of the most anticipated games in recent memory\u201d, and MTV said it\u2019s one of the \u201cCan\u2019t-Miss Video Games of 2014&#8243; &#8211; before anyone has even played it.\u00a0 Well, we have been playing <em>Watch_Dogs<\/em> since Saturday morning, and it definitely lives up to the hype! \u00a0 The game is so engrossing and so fun that this editor is very late with the full review, having played far longer than originally intended.\u00a0 Even though we are barely over ten hours into the main campaign, it is in the solid <em>&#8220;8 plus&#8221;<\/em> category.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-42194\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-ac-300x168.jpg?resize=300%2C168\" alt=\"Watch_Dogs-ac\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-ac-300x168.jpg?resize=300%2C168 300w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-ac-150x84.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-ac-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-ac.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>It seems that UbiSoft has taken the very best elements of the <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed: Black Flag<\/em> gameplay and mechanics, and tossed out the boring bits and what doesn&#8217;t work.\u00a0 The result is a fast-paced huge open world game with a great story, superb voice acting, awesome music, and car chases to delight the most jaded gamers.\u00a0 Everything comes together &#8211; including multiplayer and singleplayer &#8211; and it just works!<\/p>\n<p>However, we will give you the full review of the game later this week which will also include more detailed performance analysis and IQ (image quality) comparison between, FXAA, temporal SMAA, 4xMSAA, and 2xTXAA.\u00a0 This short performance evaluation will focus on GeForce cards as AMD has promised a new driver today which is supposed to increase performance significantly over the current driver set, and we will update this evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>We are going to test the GTX 780 Ti\/GTX 770\/GTX 760\/GTX 680 and GTX 680 SLI (GTX 690).\u00a0 You will note that the 2GB cards are unable to run Ultra Textures without significant issues, and they default to High.<\/p>\n<p>ABT has been hosting Nvidia&#8217;s <em>Watch_Dogs<\/em> banners for the past month.\u00a0 To qualify for a free digital copy of <em>Watch_Dogs<\/em>, you will need to buy one of the following GeForce cards: GTX TITAN, 780 Ti, 780, 770, 760, 690, 680, 670, 660 Ti or 660\u2013powered graphics cards.\u00a0 Nvidia believes that the best gaming experience is on GeForce since <em>Watch_Dogs<\/em> features Nvidia&#8217;s GameWorks, and especially TXAA and HBAO+ technology for a highly interactive and immersive experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-42195\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone-300x187.jpg?resize=300%2C187\" alt=\"Watch_Dogs-smartphone\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone-300x187.jpg?resize=300%2C187 300w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone-150x93.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone-1024x640.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-smartphone.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>In <em>Watch_Dogs<\/em>, all major cities are networked, monitored and controlled by complex operating systems called the Central Operating System (ctOS) which controls Chicago\u2019s technology and holds information on all of the city\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n<p>You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and thug who is on the hunt for those who hurt his family. or set AA setting too high &#8211; there will be issues that include slowdowns and visible artifacting.\u00a0 The 3GB vRAM-equipped GTX 780 Ti had serious chugging and artifacting issues at 2560&#215;1600 with 4xAA, and to a lesser extent at 2xTXAA; issues that the 6GB vRAM-equipped TITAN did not experience.<a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42184\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures.jpg?resize=500%2C313\" alt=\"Watch_Dogs-textures\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures.jpg?resize=500%2C313 2560w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures-150x93.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures-300x187.jpg 300w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-textures-1024x640.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>The Main Summary Chart<\/h2>\n<p>The only variables are the levels of Anti-Aliasing.\u00a0 No AA is not really a good option.\u00a0 FXAA provides a lower level of AA that eliminates some of the jaggies as the expense of a slight blur, but does nothing for texture crawling and shimmering.\u00a0 Temporal SMAA gives the gamer a slightly better experience than FXAA with a slightly greater performance hit, but temporal Aliasing is still noticeable.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42180\" style=\"width: 612px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/watchdogs-chart-gtx.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42180\" class=\"wp-image-42180 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/watchdogs-chart-gtx.jpg?resize=602%2C186\" alt=\"watchdogs-chart-gtx\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/watchdogs-chart-gtx.jpg?resize=602%2C186 602w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/watchdogs-chart-gtx-150x46.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/watchdogs-chart-gtx-300x92.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42180\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">* runs with slight issues ** runs poorly<\/p><\/div>\n<p>2xMSAA is a waste of processing power as it barely provides any relief from the jaggies while giving a higher performance hit than Temporal SMAA.\u00a0 4xMSAA does provide a better experience than either FXAA or SMAA, but it still does not address the shimmering and crawling that 2xTXAA provides.<\/p>\n<p>Our best playing experiences were enjoyed by using 2xTXAA with a GTX 780 Ti at 1920&#215;1080, and with Temporal SMAA at 2560&#215;1600 .\u00a0 The slight TXAA blur adds to the cinematic effect and eliminates much of the irritating crawling and shimmering.\u00a0 4xTXAA looks best, but it is below &#8216;borderline&#8217; acceptable for performance at 1920&#215;1080 with a single-GPU GTX videocard.<\/p>\n<h2>(Pre) Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-42186\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat-300x187.jpg?resize=300%2C187\" alt=\"Watch_Dogs-boat\" srcset=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat-300x187.jpg?resize=300%2C187 300w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat-150x93.jpg 150w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat-1024x640.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Watch_Dogs-boat.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>Watch_Dogs <\/em>is an extraordinary game that has surprised and delighted this editor who is only just over ten hours into an engrossing main story.\u00a0 Already, he has played chess successfully to gain &#8216;focus&#8217;, been involved in many exciting high speed car chases, as well as high-speed boating to escape the helicopter; and is still learning the complexity of this rather deep but fun game.\u00a0 We are looking forward to completing it, and we will bring you a full performance and IQ evaluation later this week &#8211;
