AMD\/ATI has put out a video on YouTube in which they claim\u00a0to\u00a0show the performance improvement that DX10.1 offers over DX10. As a\u00a0quick reminder, DX10.1 is only supported by AMD\/ATI cards starting with HD3000 series and it is not currently supported\u00a0by Nvidia cards. The games they tested in this video include:<\/p>\n

  • Battleforge <\/em><\/li>\n
  • HAWX <\/em><\/li>\n
  • Stormrise <\/em>\n

    HAWX<\/em> showed 21% improvement<\/p>\n

    Usually these kinds of videos are meant for marketing, and may not represent the entire\u00a0truth.\u00a0Since this video looked legit with FRAPS<\/a> counter, I went to my testbed and decided to test out HAWX<\/em> as that is the only DX10.1 game they tested that is available to me with my newly acquired Diamond HD4890 XOC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    I am happy to report that DX10.1 does indeed provide performance benefit over DX10. I saw a 13% improvement in average FPS. This may be largely due to using a CPU limited resolution i.e. 1280×1024.<\/span><\/em> I think\u00a0perhaps testing at a higher resolution, we\u00a0might even\u00a0see more performance improvement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
