There is something more to this. I dont know what but there is absolutely more to it.  

Nvidia should allow people to overclock if the want.  They could force them to sign away their warranty if that is the problem.  I think the issue must have been laptop manufactures cheapening out on cooling due to maxwells extraordinary power-savings when unaltered and at stock.  There are probably laptops with barely enough to handle the thermal load as it is.  But Nvidia shouldnt kill overclocking for everyone.  They could have just made their drivers much more sensitive and lowered the upper thermal threshold if they were concerned.  Lock it at 85c or something.  Then overclocked or not, the boost would be restricted by the temps.  

i dont know but surely they could have come up with something other than,
"there was this bug that let you overclock maxwell"  

That is a flat out lie.  Nvidia needs to stop lying all the time.

Agreed. This is what happens when Nvidia has no competition in desktop and laptop GPUs.
